The Romans MPP barrel is open all the way through. The bulb socket will come out with the removal of a couple little screws. Then you need to separate the metal front from the plastic back. I just had to twist mine off. I've heard some people need to use a solvent to break the bond. The hard part is finding a blade holder. I finally found a solution on Shapeways with RJT Custom Sabers. They offer a blade holder for 1" or 7/8" blades. They also have electronics chassis.I have always wanted a roman MPP. But as far as i know, the grip was not open in the middle, instead just on the pommel right? Did you make yourself the bulb socket adapter as well?
The pictures are of the 1 inch RJT blade holder inserted in the back of the metal ring from roman's bulb socket. With the 7/8" holder you get to retain the cool looking metal spring.
RJT has a video on his youtube site that shows how it all goes together.
