2-1B Medical Droid, anybody been working on one?

Don't know if this is what everyone is looking for, but here's a closeup of the chest piece from the Boston exhibit. Hope it helps

Well that looks even more light a round electrical box cover than a speaker to me which is what I thought it was in the beginning. Zorg, where does it say SONY?

Here are the box covers:

These domed styel ones are hard to find and this is the only place I have ever seen one availble in recent years. We would be seeing the inside of the cover as it is mounted upside down.

Does anyone have any tight shots of the shoulders where they connect to the body? I am trying to see if they have a large bearing in there or just a thin rod or tubing supporting the arm.

Thanks.

Stormy320 - IG-88 is my other droid head project going on right now. The head itself should be easy. I'll share all my blueprints once I finish them and pick up spare parts too when I can.

[/b]

Yea - keep me updated. If you find anything good and there's enough to share - buy it and I'll pay you. I'll do the same.

:love

Look forward to seeing those blueprints. Perhaps a 2nd eye would help make them more accurate?

i swear it said sony and some numbers on the droid in edinburgh(could this be a different chest piece?), because i remember saying to the person i was with "look its a sony speaker"

z

edit, looking at it now it doesnt look like a speaker cone but at the time thats what i thought it was, but it did say sony.

I thought the same thing, the red screw would normally be green for the ground wire.

I believe the red light is the exact same as the one on Leia's thermal detonator.
The center model parts seem very familiar to me, but I can't place them.
I'm sure if you posted in the studio scale forum they could ID those model parts.

Well I guess we may have even more than one ROTJ droid. I wonder how many of these things they built. There are clearly some major differences between the two movie versions. Here is a list of things I have noticed:

ESB
  1. Small chest piece that is completely different from ROTJ and hex shaped inside.
  2. Lots of detail parts on the arms
  3. Shoulders have cap screws in the center
  4. braided hoses
  5. detail parts in the eye sockets besides the lights
Some pictures from Star Wars Cut Scenes

arm details:

ROTJ
  1. Large chest piece
  2. Plain arms
  3. No cap screws on shoulders
  4. vinyl hose, no braid
  5. plain eye sockets, only 3 lights
  6. Conical shaped pieces on head

Actually the cones on his head first appear in ESB, but only in later scenes aboard the medical frigate (on Hoth he doesn't have them). Also on the medical frigate he has a large coiled spring (?) under his microphone/mouth.

And now to upset all the ROTJ version research...

2-1B has a completely different chest box in ROTJ.
It's about the same size as the ESB one, but has a thick black raised ridge on it. I think it is the ESB box, but with a few detail pieces missing and new ones added on.
AND...
He has NO vinyl tubing in ROTJ.

The chest box and plain tubing must have been added to "refurbish" him for public display.

the 2 large round items on the chest piece are wheels from a 1/35 tamiya (pak 43?) 75mm gun if i remember

Are there any decent shots of 2-1B from ROTJ? I haven't found any so I was going from the exhibit droid. So to clarify the chest greebly is not screen accurate and has been modified from the movie version? Perhaps he has just been taken apart and reassembled to many times.

Here is a shot from the Art of SW exhibit from Gus Lopez's pictures:

Oh well, like I said I am going for a hybrid. I actually want to finish this project so have to make some concessions and just build it.

It's a completely different chest box on the exhibit version. It's much larger than both the ESB and ROTJ boxes.

There is one publicity still from ROTJ but the box and lack of tubing is quite obvious on the DVD as well.

I could be wrong but the red light looks to be the same as the one on Boba Fett's left gauntlet as well.

The round model kit parts look like wheel covers from a car.

I believe those are the tank parts Zorg mentioned.
The smaller center parts look like maybe engine parts from a car.

Here's the ROTJ chest box:

Like I said before it's the size of the ESB one with different details and a black (rubber?) rim.

i think the center parts look like gearbox / clutch covers from a motorcycle kit
