A couple of Goonies Prop Ideas...

Hey guys,

I've just had another email back from Marble King who are asking for the dimensions of the bag, they said to search their records would take forever....

If you can please help with this I will give her the sizes!!

Thanks,

GeordieIndy

With regard to the material, I think if you open up Pitbulls pictures from the Pirate ship scence and zoom in real close I think you will see it looks to be suede for sure, especially looking at all of the pics the tie/cord does seem to be rawhide. Marble King said they only made two types of bag at this time in the 80's, the suede with the rawhide and a flannel bag. So going off this info from them, and I think the main thing for me is the tie/cord that is on the bag that we see on Pitbulls pics that definitely looks to be rawhide, it must be the suede bag...

Just need some dimensions now and they will make a sample for us to look at!!

Ok this is taking a complete shot in the dark, looking at the pictures and using the bag I made as a frame of reference. It seems to me like it might be 8 1/2 to 9 inches in length and width being anywhere from 5 to 6 inches. Again thats just a guess based on what I said above., as for the material I looked at swatches online between the to and if you look at the close up screen caps that me and mike posted and the swatches it definatly looks like it suede.

I'm not great at doing this kind of thing but here goes for the width:

If you use the marble as a reference to size, the bag looks to be at least 7 or 8 marbles in width... What do you think?? And what size is your average marble as I haven't got any to hand!

I think your 5 - 6 inch could be very close!!

Hey Andy,
Not sure about the size but regarding the bag in general. Do we know if this bag IS really from Marble King? This could have easily been a prop bag made for the movie with the MK logo on it. I really think that this is a canvas type bag similar to the Raiders bag fabric.

That's a good question and one I have asked myself. The only things to go by that I can come up with are two facts:

On the Marble King website it mentions in the history of the company section that their marbles featured in the film The Goonies, and when I contacted them about this bag and the materials used, when they told me about the suede bag with rawhide ties, I think by going off the pic of the bag flat on the ground the ties on the bag to me definitely look like rawhide.

Another pic for size reference:

The bag looks to be at the very least 11 marbles in length, but I think for width and length once the bag is totally flat and stretched out it will be slightly bigger.

The bag definitely looks suede to me, which is not necessarily stiff at all. The only question I'd have about material is what do they mean exactly by "suede" and "flannel". People have different opinions as to what those materials are. For example, some people could use either term to describe chamois. Maybe you could get a sample of each material from them to compare.

As for measurements, your 7x11 marble size sounds about right.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

To me from looking at closeups the material does look like suede as I said before but from the way it moves I agree it does look like fabric, I haven't really seen suede move to easily. So this is a tough one to go by for sure.

Andy for the bag when it is totally flat I'd say if anything it might add a quarter of an inch to half at the most. As for length who knows to me thats a tough one to call since thats really the best shot we get of it besides the shot with rosilita holding it at the end. It could be up to 11 11 1/2 inches then, it just depends on which image we look at. To me the one at the end looks different then the one we see at the beginning.

Thanks for your input Indy!!

I will see what the sample looks like, I know what you mean about different kinds of suede etc... I am just hoping the fact that they made this bag and as soon as I contacted them about the material they mentioned suede or flannel that they will use the same material to make this bag rather than a different kind of material.

I have seen this kind of suede several times before which is why I thought this would be the suede one. Saying that I have also seen many other kinds of suede material.

DemonFire, you are right about the Rosalita bag at the end of the movie being a different bag. That bag is huge!!!

I have managed to find some normal size marbles and will lie them out on some paper and take some measurements, I think I will be definitely be looking at 7 marbles in width, then see how it looks with 11 marbles in length, or if it needs to be more. I don't want this bag looking square!!!

I will make sure this bag gets your approval before anything is decided for the final bag!

Thanks again guys!

Hey,
I was going through some of my old stuff I had when I was young and found a knife that closely resembles Ma Fratelli's knife. The stiletto when she offers to serve tongue. I added it to my display. I'll take pictures later tomorrow and put them up. I got the knife probably in the mid 80's from a knife company in Kentucky. It is an actual stiletto and the design of it looks to be the same. if anyone has any screen grabs of it I'll post my pics to compare. I thought it was pretty cool finding it amongs my other things.

I'm just checking the thread, as I have been asked several times to do this...

I need some information though:

- There's any consensus about the type of material of the bag?
- The strings of the bag, they doesn't look to be leather, just some kind of cord (I think I know what type they're)
- Any photos of the eyelets?
- Any photo of the upper seams? They look kind of "special".

I'm seeing that you're having problems with the price, I would be willing to work in this prop, but giving that it's near the same that my indy sandbag I won't be able to do it for less than the price of it, so I will estimate to be the same 67$, until we find out the materials and all the details...

- Are you willing to pay 67$-75$ for an all SA goonies marble bag, I mean with logo, distressing and everything, and including worldwide shipment...

Thanks guys for your confidence in my work :)

--- I know this is an old post/thread, but I'm extremely interested in purchasing a bad like this. I don't know if you still have or make it, or if you know where I could find one, but any info would be appreciated. -thanks!
