A sword by Peter Lyon...

The SWORD HILT IS FINISHED... It still has to be peened, but heres some shots of it assembled....
Peter is just waiting on Mike to finish the scabbard...

Thats absolutely beautiful. I was in discussions a while back with a swordsmith here in the UK about having a blade made, almost like yours, except the other way round...glamdring blade and ranger hilt. Then things cropped up, and now I can't remember the website name. :(

I await your finished product with baited breath though. It's already stunning.

Ok i had to delete a few of the earlier in progress shots to allow space for these..... stupid "Global space" thing....

THAT IS SO BEAUTIFUL :cry . You should be proud to have a sword made by the same guy who made the LOTR swords we all know and love. It's like the next best thing to having the actual props from the films. Peter is my favorite swordsmith and I wish I could have a duplicate of every sword he's ever done because I like them SO much. Sadly, I dont have enough to spend on a custom sword :( , so I must marvel at the beautiful swords that others get (not that I don't enjoy that either ;) .)

I am a sword freak myself (I've even wanted to get into smithing and building swords for myself and others, mainly friends), but I'm not THAT good at sword lingo and such so this thread is kind of confusing, so here's a few questions:

1. It does look like it is Narnia inspired as well. Did you have that in mind?
2. How do they hollow and shape the wooden grip and fit it over the tang? (This has baffled me for a while regarding sword construction)
3. How'd they get that ring around the grip? Wouldn't it be rather floppy if it was merely slipped over?
4. How much did it cost? (This applies to all of your swords you've showed too.)
5. That other big sword looks like Narsil/Anduril. Is it a custom sword and is it functional? How do they make a Narsil like pommel with that triangle shaped hole and how is it attached to the tang? (Asking because I'm confused about how they pulled it off in the movies with that hollow pommel and not have the blade go flying out since I thought swords had the tang pass through the pommel and were peaned over at the end(BTW, how's this done too?) and thus would show up in the pommel hole of a Narsil-like sword.)
6. How do they build this custom sword's pommel and how do they hollow it out for tang fitting?
7. Are you the same guy who had that custom Anduril built and showed it on swordforum.com? That thing was nice. Could you please post pics?

Thanks in advance for answering.

Seth :)

P.S.-- Keep the pics coming. I can't wait to see this finished.

Wow , you do have alot of questions.
I COULD answer most of those, but its a little off-topic for this thread *g* I would highly suggest doing some research into these topics, there are plenty of good books out there, not to mention websites as well....
as for #4, I have this fairly strict rule that i dont discuss the prices of my swords. Custom sword purchasing is a business transaction and out of respect for the swordmaker, i do not discuss his pricing. If the particualr swordmaker wishes to list prices, they would do so on their website, or thru email, so i would just direct you to them.
The second sword i posted earlier own is Gwailas, a custom design by me , made by John Lundemo and yes its "fully functional".....
Yes I had a custom Anduril made by Vladimir Cervenka and i did post it on SFI, but i unfortunatly had to sell it earlier this year....

Do you think I can trade hundreds (literally) of original sword designs for one custom (non functional) sword from a swordsmith? :D
I mean: if I give these design to a swordsmith, making him the owner fo the future profits with these design, asking only one sword custom made for me, does anybody think he will accept? Or am I insane as I think? :lol
I'm asking just because I'm sure I can't afford the price of a custom sword, easy and simple :angel

Honestly I think this will be really hard... :unsure

:lol

P.S.
Oh, you are a genius too David ;)

well im no swordmaker, but i personally know a bunch...... the truely CUSTOM guys, like John Lundemo for example, handmake each of their swords, and rarely... well in the case of John.... NEVER duplicate a design... they might do something similar, but never a "production" run..... Also, most of these guys are artists and design their own stuff..... in that same sense, most of them are in business to make money so doubtfully would trade stuff........

again im NOT a swordsmith, im just saying this so you wont get let down if it doenst happen./

Oh, but this will NEVER happen... :D I don't have enough b***s to ask something soo stupid and childish to a serius professional swordsmith... I will wait until I have the money... ;)

But you'll never know... :lol

can someone PM me a link?

me, too I'd like to see....

David, love the sword.. Just looks fantastic, congrats on a well made sword from a great master.

Cannot wait to see the scabbard.

Do you mean the cheap knock-off of glamdring, right?
Well this (ugly) replica it's online from a looong time ago (and it's the only cheap replica that have NOTHING of the wonderful glamdring...The runes, the leaf blade, etc...)
So it's only a BAD copy of a nice sword (it looks like this sword because noone, apparently, is able to reproduce a leaf blade... And this is weird, because you can find nice replicas of Sting. Maybe not enough research...)
