Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

This is the one I picked up for my Brett jacket (still waiting on rhe engineer pin). It may be a tad small, kinda hard to tell, but it is authentic and beautifully made. A nice compliment to the scrambled eggs on the hat.

Thanks retro! Missed that thread somehow.
Now I just need to decide how detailed to go on the pants and hopefully find some patterns for those. I'm okay at sewing but not great, so this should be a challenging (and fun) project.

The trousers are a lot less detailed and asymetrical from the knees up, so they are more forgiving than the shirt for sure. My pattern is with my seamstress, but when she's done I can scan them for you.

It isn't perfect, but seeing friends rave about the commercially available replica (that looks lousy to me) motivated me to finally get mine done:

It's a vintage snapback hat with metalic thread "scrambled eggs" of a surplus officer's hat. I backed them with black felt and put frayed cotton behind my aged Nostromo patch.

Thought you guys might like to know we're in the process of completely revising our Nostromo shirt and pants using a more "wrinkly" cotton for a more "informal" finish. We also managed to drop the price point on both! Hoping to have some new photos shortly...

Kind regards,
Magnoli

The cap looks great! the look of the frayed fabric behind the patch is really cool, what kind of adhesive did you use for the frayed cotton backing?

I'm working on Dallas' shoes, and from one image I saw, it looks like he had 8 D-rings on each side of the shoe, rather than the 7 seen on Ripley's shoes. And a single dark blue (or black) stripe. I also don't see any vent holes. Can anyone validate any of these details?
Here is the image I am referring to:

In regards to my hat, I feel like I got duped. There's one shot of Brett's hat from an auction (I think) that shows the frayed fabric behind the patch, but every shot of the hat being worn in the film lacks this detail. So I'm not sure what to do about my hat now...

I posted these a while back, but Ripley's has 8 holes as well. It also appears the vintage shoes were taller and the holes were more spread out.

It looks like the paint wore off during filming so they appear different throughout.

I'm not too concerned about the extra height. I got the reissue high-tops, which have 9 lace eyelets and look a little higher than the standard size. I'm going with the image I posted where you can clearly see the black stripes (and some other group shots where I can make out a hint of a dark stripe). It seems a good compromise, and I like the look. Here's what I have so far:

I haven't decided what to do about the vent holes yet. Dallas' shoes look like they don't have any holes, and may actually have some additional fabric creating a pattern down the side that cover up the holes. I may just stick with what I have, or I may add another vent hole just because, or maybe I'll try to mimic that fabric pattern, I don't know. For now, I'd rather spend the extra time on the other pieces of the outfit, which I haven't started yet. Especially since the shoes - as noted - tend to vary a bit.

Shoes look good! Yeah go with whatever version you like as they did change throughout the film.

I have one more NOSTROMO stencil ready to ship. PM if interested.

This is what I'm using as a base for the shoes. Not quite screen accurate, but the piping on the side was too retro looking to pass up and has an astronaut feel to it.

I like these--nice find! Are you going to add the vertical detailing to the fronts?
I haven't even started. :( I wish I knew where to get the stuff. The rivets, etc. Most of the pics on this thread are down. I've been working on my second Nostromo jacket as well. I have Dallas Capt. jacket, now I have a Kane jacket.

Gotta re-lace the Dallas (going longer) and lace and stencil the back of the Kane:

and WOW..does the lighting affect the colors of these... I could take the same jacket in different lighting and get all different colors of green-grey...

What lacing are you using? I have yet to find the perfect match. Agreed on the long laces; the screen-used look bunched on top as well as near cuff.

I got mine here: http://paracordgalaxy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=196_275

It really depends upon the hue of green jacket that you get. But this place has the best millimeter diameter paracord and cheap! Scroll down as the solid colors are towards the bottom. There are several greens to green-grays to choose from. Again, depends upon the jacket color. RAF MK3 has many variations (due to years of manufacturing and different manufacturers). My favorite so far is the (RAF - Marine version..more of a gray than green). My Dallas jacket is this and it has been produced in 2008. My Green Kane has a manufacture date of the 1980's and is by a different company. I own a 1979 version, but the elbow color is worn a little and need an expert dye job to get it to one color, still got it for $35 so can't complain too much. LOL
