Avatar spawning baby names.

Here's a few I've heard...

Tyrant Chrome
Ali'en (<--WTF?)
And "Heaven" spelled backwards, "Nevaeh" <---I've seen this particular name used ATLEAST 12 times in the last year.

Now, I'd like to introduce you to my sons "Walker" and "Texas Ranger".

Actually, it will be a nice change of pace from Ashley, Brittany, Bria, Taylor....

I named by son after the character "Dallas" in my favorite book growing up "The Outsiders".

He recently thanked me for the name. Said people think it's "cool", especially after they had to watch the movie in school for which I retorted "Be thankful I changed my mind. I was going to name you Soda Pop or Pony Boy".

Yeah, I think there's ways that you can do a "cool" unique name, or an "Oh god why did you NAME ME THIS?!!!" unique name. Dallas is definitely different and unusual, but it's not so out there that you're gonna spend your life trying to defend yourself for the uniqueness of your name or whathaveyou.

Like, Anakin Skywalker Davidson? That kid's gonna HATE his parents. Especially after he watches the prequels. Might as well just name him Whiny Pissant Davidson. ;)

I've met many people named after characters in classic movies. (Gone with the Wind comes to mind ...) This level of fandom isn't new. When someone is affected by something that much, they incorporate it into their lives.

As for the Pandora reference not being "gotten", what are movies but our modern myths? Now, I'm pretty certain Avatar will not prove as enduring as what most consider "mythology", but movies today do fill the hole mythology used to fill for people. That's why it's so important that people seek out entertainment that appeals to the best in them.

So few cinematic endeavors ascend to that potential, but every movie presents that opportunity.

Ah yes, the mythical "Orangejello and Lemonjello". Your friend didn't work on the case, nor did your cousin's sister in law assist in the delivery, etc., etc. :p

Actually he kept a copy of the paperwork. I've seen it. :p

Correction: movies TRY to fill the gap that mythology used to fill. I don't think they succeed very often, however.

LIES!!! :p

Sorry, that's all I got. :)

I still think it's a myth, but you should submit copies to Snopes. Although that might be a HIPAA violation...

Yeah, it probably would. Hell, I don't even know if he still has the paperwork. This was several years ago.

But speaking of Pandora. I had a client named that a few months ago. She was in her early 30s. I really wanted to ask her if she had opened the box but figured she heard it all the time.

Isn't there a country in Europe that actually reserves the right to reject a child's given name if they find it's stupid, and require the parents to come up with something more appropriate?

My girlfriend went to high school with a girl named Amyunique, not sure on the spelling. She would always say "I'm unique cuz Amyunique."

I had a class with another girl in college named Candace, but she insisted everyone pronounce it Can-Dah-see.

If I ever have a son I'll probably stick to my family's time-tested naming convention. First or middle name Joseph and the other name starts with a D.

My aunt works in the hospital and she was present when a young mother who had given birth to fraternal twins was asked what she wanted to name her children..
she replied "They already named them for me. Molley and Femolley. (written in the way she said it)
The hospital staff assured her that they had done NO such thing but she wouldn't have it as she liked the names for her new little boy and girl.

What it actually said?
Male
Female

My wife's aunt was a teacher in NJ and she had a student named Female (pronounced Femolley). She had another whose name was pronounced "Shi-theed", but was spelled ****head. Amazingly, it didn't seem that the girl had put it together yet.

My ex's last name is Sweet, and her parents almost named her Candy.

Her dad.... Les Sweet.

A friend of the wife named her kid Precious. Obviously didn't watch LOTR. Poor kid is in trouble in a few years.

Clamato and Chim-Chim are names I've always wanted to use for kids. Also Polyester Doubleknit for a girl.
