Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon GROUP build awakens! OPEN TO EVERYONE! :)

I've made a little bit of progress on my Falcon. I painted the gun ports and drilled some holes for lighting. Also, I've finished all the paneling work on the hull. It's pretty much ready for a clear coat, decals, and weathering. I'm just not sure if want to do that while everything is apart or wait to weather it after I close up the ship. Still lots to do.

Hello everybody,
this is my very first entry as old new kit builder. I've to say that I was so inspired by all your accomplishments in all scales.
As a lot of very good models have been shown, I wanted to give a try with a slightly different color scheme. Taking for inspiration the CGA renderings that Jaitea published just 2 threads above…
Being confined here in Switzerland, I decided to give it a go 5 years after buying the bandai kit !
There the colors are very sub toned ans desaturated. Base color seems also more greenish than the usual white/deck tan mix.
So first, I organize a palette within Photoshop to have an hint where I should go colorwise

This done, I decided also to go for the closed cockpit version, it would be painted black on the inside. Same for the turrets.
So base color was set and the model painted with the only modification being the radar drilled and the battle damages, after being painted all black with Stynlrez primer.
This primer is very good, my anly regret is the shininess of it ! I've seen some models where it seems silky matt, but mine turned very glossy.
I've to say I love to work with a black coat first and then applying thin layers. This gives such a depth immediatly. The pictures shows the different in hue with the small version I intend to mimic the OT version.

Well, since the thread got bumped I feel less odd about posting my recent project. This is a practice run for the Perfect Grade Falcon (which I'm now working on). I wanted to get a feel for the ArchiveX colors and what order & opacity to apply them. I'm not doing anything fancy such as lights. I do have a 3d Shapeways dish and photoetch grills. There are a few things I will go back and do later but I wanted to jump over to the PG Falcon while I had momentum. Enough rambling:

You did a great job on this tiny scale! Haven't seen many 1/144 Falcons painted with Archive-X, yet.

Did you use Lark DK for the streaks? How did you apply them?

Stynylrez usually has a very smooth, satin finish. Maybe you've got a bad batch, or it wasn't mixed enough?

Yes, DK Lark and I punched a few of them up with Engine Black. Some streaks are freehand and very ghosty, others used a tape mask as shown. I would reposition the tape in slightly different shapes to avoid repetition. Some of the Falcon's streaks taper and others are a consistent width. I like to keep them somewhat soft at the edges to avoid the toy look, sometimes brushing over them with a bit of mineral spirit right after the streak is applied.

That is a great looking build! I really like the PE grills. And the faded paint job. Very nice!

@ sindariel
thanks for the info !
Actually I paint it straight ! No thinner as I saw someone on youtube testing it this way with great results …
Next time, will try it ! What's your formula ?
The picture shows it just after painting, primer still fresh
Cured, it went really nice with no loss of details. Moreover, i can sand it, which caused me bad results with Vallejo as it starts to peel off very quickly

Then I painted the body panels with my alternative palette. Masking is really time consuming and not the funniest part !
It turned out pretty good except one grey which turned almost purlple. ;^\

So remasking and repainted. After that it came to my taste, I try brush chipping which I wanted to try ! This is really not as easy as I thought initially.
It really required some techniques to make it look real, but somehow I feel it could be a plus when mastering this effect. If you look at some tanks it's really amazing how that could mimic worne surfaces.
After this, a light coat of Klear which gave me a satin gloss. As I wanted my oil to stick a bit to the surface. When to glossy, oils would react to much like the classic panel lines method. Instead here I have more a grainy, dirty look.

Next move, streaks !!!!

As I wanted to experiment techniques with this kit, I tried to do as much as possible with oils. So decided to almost paint the streaks with a very fine brush using some Abteilung paints not diluted and then, after letting them dried a bit, brushed gently with a very soft brush in order to spread it towards the direction I wanted. I didn't follow the original to perfection, but tried to give a convincing worn look effect.
I will let it dry for some days and then assemble all the parts

Hope you guys like it !

Well, this is the final model !
I noticed some parts went a bit apart for some reasons…
It's a bit too discolored, but it gives quite a nice scale effect.
More to come…

Damn, I didn't even know this thread was a thing! Don't know where I've been (well, I do know... at my bench, working on my DeAgostini Falcon, lol), but I've been working on a 1:144 Rise of Skywalker edition of the kit. I made a thread, but I'll post finished build photos here since it seems the most appropriate place, and if you want I could post the current photos here, too.
