Best and Worst Comic Book Movie/ tv show Costumes

Now that this thread reminded me, I hated the movie Green Goblin helmet mask. Totally immovable dead expression. It's like looking at a motorcycle helmet. I'm amazed the actor agreed to it.

The few times I saw Birds of Prey I didn't see any costumes, only street clothes. And that was wrong. For Blade or the Punisher yeah, but not the bat-iverse.

I think that shot of Dina Meyers as Batgirl was only a very, very brief flashback scene. Other than that, I don't recall seeing any "costumes" per se.

I guess I can see why folks really hate the Green Goblin helmet and/or costume. I loved it myself but maybe there's a way to do the Goblin more faithfully and have it look plausible in live action as well. I hope the new series will manage to strike a better balance so it doesn't alienate so many fans like the Raimi Goblin did.

Green Goblin is tough to translate off the comic page. As imperfect as it was, the Raimi solution to the goblin is the best thing I can think of honestly.

The Ultimate Spidey comics made it so that Norman physically transformed into the goblin, which works a little better as far as selling the concept to modern movie audiences but that's a cop-out in my opinion.

A really tough character to deal with. Lots of disbelief to suspend.

pumpkin bombs
razor bats
goblin glider
green scary halloween mask
green lizard scales all over his body
purple pointy hat and pointy boots!
AND the guy is a super smart billionare industrialist

Is a pretty good translation no matter how you slice it.

They got all the original elements in there and had it play pretty well to a non-comic reading audience.

I've never seen the Hoff Fury movie. Worth watching at all?

The costume isn't really that far from the comics.

I totally agree (you and I seem to be in sync on these topics quite frequently.)

GG is just a tough character to translate faithfully. Maybe they can work something out with the whole green/purple thing without it coming off as looking goofy but even if they do, the mask/face is just a nightmare to translate any way you slice it.

That shape-changing thing you mentioned does sort of explain it better and I suppose if they can pull off a more monster type of villain like the Lizard, maybe they could make it believable for GG... The Raimi version was great though IMHO.

I loved it, but I am easily entertained. Also, I have unhealthy love for 1990s Lisa Rinna, so obviously my taste is suspect.

Even I wouldn't tell you it's a consistently high-quality work... although we get to see the helicarrier and LMDs... let's put it on the continuum of better than most Marvel TV movies, but not as satisfying as Iron Man 2. Sort of in the same range as X3 and Wolverine. Fine to watch once, great if you squint your eyes while watching, and awesome if you're drunk on Boone's Farm. :lol

Little kids across the world thought Raimi's Goblin it was cool enough.

In the end that's all I care about. It's so cool to see kids get into these old characters that I grew up reading and have them carry much of the same spirit despite it being an entirely new generation!

I'm a big fan of classic movie serials and thought it's be fun to examines some of the costume solutions they came up with back in the 40's and 50's.

Here are the Batman serials. They are not great serials (the first one is better than the second) but the costumes are interesting.

The Adventures of Captain Marvel-
This serial is awesome. The stunts are insane and the flying effects are so cool.

Comics have the advantage because their masks can and do move. Even Ironmans faceplate changes shape. In live action it would look goofy.

How about a mask that is seen being put on, but then is glued to the actors face? It moves as he talks. Then it comes off as a mask.

reagrding the moving masks , about 4 years ago i was maing a comic book green gobin suit. everyone said that a mobile goblin mask was impossiblle to do like the comics.... i prived that not true when i made my custom fit platsil gel 10 mask with deadener. worked a dream. got to say though love the old batman serials too

That's what it looked like at early on.

No, it didn't! Look at that Feb 1940 cover you posted: nice and symmetrical; a flat bolt shape. Then those serial pics of the costume you posted above that... there's an arch pointing towards the top of the bolt! Shenanigans!

That's a pretty good match. A couple angles at the bolt's tip are SLIGHTLY funny but that's really being nitpicky.

It's an amazingly accurate costume as far as movie adaptations go.
