Best available mannequin for Stormtrooper armor?

Honestly, I am totally admitting defeat here. Sorry to be the obvious leach on this thread but give me some positive win on posable, sizable, customizable (chest, hip, etc) and less than 500 and I swear I will sell my car to finance it....

Not trying to be depressing but with the entire world moving to internet sales, stores are closing all over. If you have a clothing store closing near you, go get yourself a nice manny or nanny for about 50 dollars or less. They throw them in the dumpster on the day they lock the doors

the shoes.....

This stormtrooper has taste and style! Obviously, temporary and waiting for RS armor to come in.

Looks and works good.

Modded this guy a bit in certain areas. Overall, I think he looks legit, but always tweaking the small things. The modded hands holding the gun makes a huge difference.

Waiting for armor to be put on to make final tweaks.

Open to any criticisms or thoughts/comments.

As long as the size is correct, it looks great.

Love to know where you grabbed this

Again, mine has been modified alot. Hands, fingers, shoulders, legs, feet, hips, stand, etcetera. This does give you good place to start.
When you say mod, do you mean handycraft cut and glue (ya, I see the tape....heheheheh) or do you mean 3d printed or resin pour/ fiberglass patch, etcetera? Inquiring minds want to know. I almost sense a Luke skywalker hand under that glove..... robotic with joints?

No 3d printing, resin pouring here. Mainly a lot of dremeling and repositioning the limbs and digits. Copious amounts of wire, screws and wood for reinforcing the structure. The duck tape was there mainly to smooth over the surface so when the suit goes over there isn't any weird lines. It is not there for support or holding anything together.

Biggest part is getting this thing to look like how you see it in your head and not have it look like a stiff manequin. I don't know how avoidable that really is, right? Modifying the stand helped and the legs/hips/feet as well.

The question is when you look at it, do you believe it? Trying to eliminate anything that takes you out and ruins the illusion.

Like I said I am still making tweaks and won't know until I put the armor on, but so far I think I am getting really close.

So, I just unboxed my first ever 3d printer and it isn't easy nor is the design software so I am still living in the same mode as you with physical effects.

I would love to take the manny apart as you described and put ball joints in each joint and add the posable hand/fingers.

With full costume cover, it wouldn't need to be beautiful, just useful and strong. I would imagine having an allen head tightener inset in each ball joint should be enough for most instances. Likely already a purchasable item. Not trying to derail the thread but this is my dream build, fully poseable. Not really that intense truthfully. Build the joint slightly oversized for the bore, hold it up to the outside of the body part to find cut lines where you leave the bridging skin for bolting to, maybe 3/4 inch on each merge point and you have a huge artist's manny.

Great job on yours and thank you for the link for purchase.

Ball joints would be the dream! I wonder if it would hold under the weight of itself? Especially in certain positions. You could allen the areas to tighten and loosen, but it would be very wonky to adjust anything at any given moment. You would surely need it on a stand to be able to do that, or an extra set of hands to help out.

Thank you again. Looking forward to any future builds. I am always looking for improvements to be made.

Can't believe I missed this thread. Here's what I did!

Step 1: Find a fiberglass mannequin that's pose would be slightly altered:

Step 2: Cut the arm and enforce the cut with a fiberglass repair kit.
Step 3: Heat fingers and adjust them under cold water.

Step 4: Enjoy. The webley is real and heavy so this fix has worked for over 10 years now...
