Hi all!

This year, I decided to go as Jade from Mortal Kombat for Halloween. I chose the most recent MK (Mortal Kombat 9... NINE. Wrap your brain around THAT!) To me, this was the most interesting costume available of the MK ladies from this particular episode of the game. Here she is:

To begin, I sketched out what I wanted my version of Jade to look like. I knew I was wearing it for Halloween, so I needed to tone down the skin-showing a bit - Halloween weather is not kind on the East Coast, and I didn't want to make people uncomfortable. I ended up modifying the front to be a deep-v instead of a deep, deep, ....deep-v. I went with a stretch metallic - if there's ever an appropriate time to use a fabric like this, it's for a Mortal Kombat Halloween costume. Here is the concept:

I draped the entire garment on my dress form. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of this part of the process, just once the whole thing came together. See below:

For the gloves, I use a little guess-work on the pattern itself. Using stretchy fabric, and knowing I wanted my gloves to be very fitted, I essentiality just use the measurements of my arm + a tiny bit of ease. I used an appliqué technique for the gold and green triangles with the aide of a tear-away stabilizer. They went on to be cut out around my thumb and forefinger, just as the reference art shows:

For the boots, I used a base boot as a guide and built the length upwards. Again, I used an appliqué technique for the knee details. The cover is attached to the base with Shoo Goo. See below:

The mask is also appliqué on a black base. The wig is simply pulled into a ponytail and the elastic band is covered with green metallic to match. I did dark eye makeup and wore dramatic lashes. My staff is just an aluminum rod. Ta-da!:

And finally, my proof photo; please excuse the shameless selfie. :)
