WIP shots for my Bronn costume. Started for Dragoncon 2014, but actually finished in time for Dragoncon 2015. ;)

Here's what I'm going for.

Started with some accessories. Made a drinking horn from PVC pipe, with a wooden base. It's sealed and actually holds ale.

For the sword, I made a non-functional scabbard/hilt combo. The scabbard was carved from a board, and the handle is a 1" dowel. For the cross-guard, I used sintra for each side and then filled the center with epoxy putty. The pommel was modeled in 3D and printed. Finally the scabbard was covered in leather (cut from the sleeves of a thift-shop jacket), and the end chape cobbled together from craft foam.

The pommel model is now on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:662312

More to come...

For the kukri knife, I modified an existing scabbard. However, I needed a "con-safe" knife so I made a wooden replica. The blade is cut from a thin oak board using a scroll saw. The handle was carved from a hammer handle. I found a perfect lion head at a yard sale to finish the end of the handle.

Armor time. That thrift store jacket mentioned earlier was turned backwards to be the base of the armor.

The rolled parts along the edges were made by covering upholstery piping with strips of leather (using contact cement.)

And then came to 6,000 scales (well, actually about 400.) I decided to try making them from craft foam. Using 5mm sheets, 9" x 12", I cut each sheet into 81 scales. Then they were each heated, stamped with an "X" using a piece of wood, and hole punched in the corners. I dry brushed them using a combination of burnt sienna and yellow oxide acrylics.

I tacked them in place with a dot of hot glue, and them sewed the corners using crochet thread and a sail-maker's needle.

Jaime, Bronn(s) -- I'm on the right -- and the Sand Snakes.

All I can say is WOW! What a bunch of beautifully costumed people! That's really quite impressive! All that you all really needed was a more impressive backdrop to pose in!

Very, very cool indeed!

Thanks. There were actually even more great costumes; here's the full group shot. And, you're right, we need to find a castle to pose in. :)

Nice! I wish I could have been there for that photoshoot, looks like a great group. I never noticed Bronn used a kukri either, interesting.

Yeah, since the kukri's on the back of his belt it's not seen too often. When he has a confrontation with the Hound -- right before the Battle of the Blackwater -- he's about to use it.
