BTTF Pepsi Bottle : Reboot

Thanks for the update Gary and I hope your feeling a lot better now. I was actually just wondering about this project the other day.

Gary has just started the flip top lids and should have them done soon. I think these would get done sooner if Gary had more interest from us...Anyone?

Here is Gary's start...

I have a question:
Would it work, if you made a thin slush casting of clear resin and then filled it with Pepsi colored Resin. Would that make it look like the "fluid" was inside the "glass"?
If it works it would be cool if this was done on these bottles.

Hey Conny,
Gary and I have discussed this at extreme lengths. He also considered vacuforming two halves and "welding" them together, adding the top and straw but it seems that this may be a little harder than we thought.

Like this...

Gary's bottles are, in my opinion, the end all be all of BTTF 2015 bottles. His are cast from a protoype bottle that matches the screen used bottles.

Pretty much any rotocast resin would have to be overly thick to maintain its shape and strength.

That downside leads you to blowmolding a single piece or vac-forming two halves. I'm leading towards a two halves approach since this would allow me to put the straw mechanism in the top.

The vac-formed bottles are still a ways off, but I have made further progress on the flip top bottles and so far, I think they are the best replication I've seen thus far.

They are a multipiece construction just like the film bottles. Don't worry too much about the visible seam. They are done like this on purpose and it will be near invisible on the finals.

With any luck, I should be molding these up this weekend or next. I just need the weather to cooperate with me a bit more.

These pictures SUCK, but I thought I'd show everyone where I am so far. The first test castings are done and they look great.

Fist up, a PP translucent brown test cast. Looks as good as the first one without the flip top.

A solid cast and translucent cast.

A close up of the final "straw". Once glued in place this gets filled and sanded flush. Since the two resins have slightly different shrinkage ratios, I made the straw and support a little larger so I had plenty of meat to sand down.

I'll see about finishing these and a few more out over the next week or two and post a final update. Lots of sanding and filling in my future to make these work like they should.
