Building a SS TIE cockpit ball

Would the dimensions from an ICONS Tie be accurate? Weren't thety cast from 'actual' props or moulds?

Unfortunatly no, there are too many generations between an original prop and an Icons, plus the Icons is a casting (or based off) of a pyro TIE Fighter and it was different from the heros.

Darn, I have a 5 1/2 inch acrylic ball I was gonna use. Please let it be 5 1/2, Please, please, :)

Lol you can try with a 5-1/2" ball :D

It will take some time to get the 5-1/4" hemis from Plastruct as all french airports are closed for now :s I dont know when I'll get them (if I ever receive them !).

So Julien, was the 5 1/4" ball the correct one after all? I read another 2010 post by Steve saying that ILM did use a 5" ball with .040 or .060" styrene over it.

Joe, I dont know if 5 1/4" is correct but I think it's close (that's what I and other friends, have found). Steve is right they used a 5" ball and with vacformed styrene over it so the diameter is probably a ******* measurement due to the vacforming process...
