That is epic muscle suit build. How many hours did it take you to do it and how much for a suit like this.
thank you
it was a fun build . not sure on the hours for whole suit im trying to keep better track on the venom suit in doing now , ill let you know with that one . it gets quicker each time i do it and im able to get better form . from design to delivery it took me 3 months to do that project. venom will be 2 months or less.heres link to more pics from builds-

that muscle suit was 2700.00 Canadian plus shipping. he was very happy im making a second mask right now its a half mask , heres the design for that . ill start that sculpt now while i build venoms body.venom sketch 1 inked7.jpg20140222_123044.jpg

I just started foam fabricating costumes, and this thread taught me a lot.
Thank you for posting the price. It will help me out a lot if I ever get a customer interested in my builds.

Was it difficult fabricating a costume for a client that was not there to model for you? Or does the foam, and latex's flexibility give you some leeway?
I know that I am making foam armor for a client, and just going on measurements does not ease my mind.

im still working on pricing etc . i saw plain muscle suit going for 2500.00+ with no theme or detail...? pricing has always been a weak point but i just know i cant do it for any less than my price materials alone eat up about 800-1000 and it takes alot of work . my only advice is figure out your materials and your time and set your time to an aproppiate wage that reflects where your skill is at now . as you get better , or demand increase you can increase wage accordingly.
i started this as a hobby but would love to offer the best costume i can make , that are reasonably priced but not basement prices the biggest advice ive been told is not to sell yourselfr short or give it away. you dont do yourself any favors and it makes it harder for the rest of builder community to make a go of it.

yeah not be able to do fittings suck so you have to generalize a bit . i usualy get the clients clothes measurements and ill find a substitute model and or make a duct tape dummy (modify my manniquin) with fabric and duct tape to get closer to the clients size. its not perfect but it will work.

So awesome. I love Carnage.

Does a muscle suit like that hold up if you wear it under a skintight suit? I would love to have a generic superhero muscle suit, but can't afford one of the nice sculpted foam ones. Would be down to make it myself though.

Absolutely. I once ran into a craftsman from Legacy Effects who recommended precisely this technique for building a budget muscle suit beneath a lycra superhero outfit.

what lunaman said...agreed
these things are tough and i skin it with fabric with the latex, adds to toughness, helps keep its form and if you choose the right fabric you can get realistic skin textures

Very cool, I have seen your post before, but still like what you're doing. I've been planning a hulk costume for years, and the seperate muscle pieces is one idea I've thought of to make free movement. Hope you don't mind if I reference what you've done to try out some experiments for my hulk build.

thanks no problem . i did a hulk a couple years ago for a client . i learned alot from that one . i built it to specifics for client but if i were to do it again id make it less pieces and build off a lycra suit like carnage .the best advice i can give is build off someone who is similar build or make a manquin out of duct tape (several vids here and in youtube ) it will be indepensible . layout muscles on the lycra,(Make doubles for symmetry) and spray glue on. build up layers by laminating 1-2 inch foam till you get right proportions. the sculpt back detail. the trick is to leave areas where you want most movement with minimal to no foam like ares between muscles and natural joints.this will depend on the overall look your going for. you can check with numerous fittings and feel where to loosen.
heres the link to that build and my deviant art site which has lots of pics of contruction.

Merci, mon ami.

Yeah, I've actually seen your hulk, didn't know it was the same maker though. I can see the improvements with your carnage suit. the muscles seem more natural and less stringy(like it's made up of a bunch of rope. On your hulk, the mask/head seems a little big kind of throws off your proportions, but definitely not bad for a first attempt. I'm waiting to see how mine turns out since it'll be my first attempt.

for the hands I'm going to try and adapt something like this to give me functioning hands but still have hulk proportions.
Mechanical hands finger extensions - YouTube

Articulated PowerFist

the mask I'm going to make a "prosthetic" or form fitting mask and green contacts. Hoping to get the materials ordered soon to make the mold of my head so I can start sculpting.

Anyways, sorry didn't mean to hog up space on your post. I like what you're doing, and plan to keep checking out what you're doing. Maybe we can share more tips we find along the way.

for sure
thanks so much for those links . i tried the mechanical hands and they worked for 5 minutes ,they were supposed to be for that hulk, i still have them but i missed a step during construction and havent had the time to go back. the power fist link ive been looking for that one. saw a vid somewhere and couldnt find it again so thanks again for that .the hulk was my first ever commission . i didnt use body suit or sculpt mask in clay it was all carved out of foam ( an old couch..lol). the client had me make so many changes in mid stream so my original vision was lost . i had originally had the shoulders etc much bigger and all was in proportion but for some reason he wanted it in 9 pieces and i had to dig the muscles out from behind so it "deflated' i still like it but its no where near as cool as it could have been . i hope i get another chance at it.its because of the hulk project im much more strict with clients in their changes and the design has to be approved and finalized before i start.

i really like all the thought youve put into yours you seem like you have the basics covered and id be happy to pass on any info that may help you. looking forward to seeing the build.

cheers
