Chewbacca ROTS (completed)

Re: Wookiee costume

I like your foot system. Is that a strap on the vertical piece to attach to your own leg? Look forward to the next update.

That is just a temp measure, will attach velcro straps later. Another hour of latch hooking and the feet will be finished, then on to the the mask again.

Thanks for the tip on the hackle Littlebit, will come in very useful for blending colours.

Re: Chewbacca costume (work in progress)

Congratulations, looks amazing, looking forward to see pics of your work on the mask
Best regards

Re: Chewbacca costume (work in progress)

This is coming together nicely - really good work!

How are you doing the latch hooking? I've been looking for a good tutorial online.

Re: Chewbacca costume (work in progress)

Have thrashed out most of the basic underskull measurements based on the calculations I made, needed to take into account the extra width that the hair will make. The teeth are acrylic except for the canines, couldn't be arsed sculpting them :lol Need to widen the head slightly.

And of course refine and tidy up.

Well actually I lie when I see finished, finished latch hooking that is.
Needs a little straightening and styling.

Funnily enough some brands of Kanekalon are wavier than others, LATrend is definitely the straightest I have come across so far!

Re: Chewbacca costume (work in progress)

Lifts more or less complete, just need to thin out the hair a bit.

These are the trousers after approx 3 to 4 hours of latch hooking, it's hooked about 5 inches from the leg ends.
That is just one pack of kanekalon at £2, cheap as chips.
Using kanekalon numbers strawberry blonde #27 and brown #6, will start to introduce some blonde #22 and grey #44 as I progress. Little slow mixing hair by hand but I'm starting to pick up speed.
I estimate that it will take approx 25 to 30 hours to complete the trousers.

My motivational ref image thrown in there for good measure, it's what will keep me going!

Re: Chewbacca costume (work in progress)

Hello all, thought I might just jump in here and say hello to all you other Wookie builders/lovers!:love.
I love this build and am in awe of Dougie's work. These pics don't do justice to seeing his work in the flesh. I can tell you it's bloody impressive stuff. He is a master of resource and innovation. (is that enough ego rubbing now?)lol.
Can't wait for the next update!
Seriously now these threads are incredibly inspirational and it feels very comforting to have so many talented people to bounce off.
Can't wait to get started on my Tatful now and will be bending your ears for info and guidance.

Cheers

Are you going to articulate the jaw on the mask? That would be really cool!

I love Wookie builds and this one is no exception - Dougie, where are you sourcing your mesh and kanekalon from if you don't mind me asking?
