Cleaning Vader's dome

Re: Cleaning Vader's dome

If the scratch is through the clearcoat, there's not a heck of a lot that you can do...some automotive waxes will fill minor scratches but depending on the depth, the scratch will still be noticeble. NuFinish will do this.

Conversely, you could buff with a low grit automotive polish and power buffer, then wax with a polymer based car wax...that will last forever. I've used Zaino waxes on my glossy Vader helmets and the shine has lasted for months on end. Buffing by hand will not remove scratches as your arm can't attain the oscillations per minute required to remove scratches.

If all else fails, take the dome to a trusted auto detailer...they'll be able to remove the scratch or at least correct it to where it's less noticeable.

Most are painted with automotive paints. It's very much like washing your car. Clean off any dirt first with a very mild detergent and water... then an automotive wax applied with a soft cloth and buffed to a shine will do it.
