Cooper RBR.

well, Lee, I used the grime and did a mixture of 1 oz of grime and 1/4 oz of white, and came up with this color, the plain white was too bright even after some weathering so I knew that straight grime was too dark, and yes you can see some of thered color and others showing through so I need to redo it, and one of he pics is of my FMMF that is painted with straight grime color BUT with gray primer, the RBR had white primer and then the grime white paint.

Wow ...

That's strange to see a clean RBR lol

Anyway bro she looks good at this point (never seen a cooper RBR like yours, details are wonderfull on the engine area).

I cant wait to see more... your subtile washes and weathering...

As I said you before, I admire your paint research and I know how hard it is to get the true color from pics :s

Apophis, good start too .

Keep up the good work guys . =)

Thanks bro, it is a bitch but i live in hope itll look ok once tinkered around with (theres a few things i have up my sleeve lol) . So much weathering to do, thatll be taken care of with pastels for most of the main hull streaking etc. Looking good Jerry, im still not convinced on grime but then if we all did things the same it would be a boring forum huh. I went for a grey primer and hit it with white, it gave a good preshaded base to work on, its actually duller (more off white to light grey) than my pics show, but ill work on my cam skills as i go along lol.

Hey guys, I'm not certain with this as I haven't started my BR yet, but I painted up a fett lid for myself a while back and the fett red looks close to the red on the BR.
I used a mix of Tamiya flat red, buff to lighten it and a drop or two of hull red for the rusty shade it seems to have. I don't know the ratio tho...I just had a play around 'till it looked right.

Dunno if it helps or not...but there you go.

Phil

Hey Phil

Thanks for chiming in buddy. You did that awesome ATATron build right? I think you got a thing there with the red markings, in some pics there like a shade or two above red oxide and in others very vibrant. Ill stick with what i have and work on the weathering, but it would be cool to see what you come up with. Keep us up to date when you kick off the build sir, im sure you will do her a lot of justice.

hey guys, some updated pics, I havnt started any weathering yet, but I do have the painting done, the red I mixed isnt a complete color, I purposely left it unmixed so i could mix it as I go along, and as phil mentioned, the red is a combo of brick guards red and such to where i would used a rust color to darken the red and then a yellow to give some sections that orangie glow, and remember i used a mixture of grime and flat white, and all pics are without flash.

Yep the AT-AT was me.. I hope the BR won't take that long to build..
Both of the builds here are looking pretty darn good to me. The trouble with trying to match these things is that in all the publicised pics it looks different, and in your kits they are different..in the end I think you have to go with what looks right to you and for the overall "feel" of the thing.
If in the end when it's up on the shelf and YOU look at your model and feel pleased and proud, then job done ..

Lee just reading through this and I noticed that you mention a toneing down mist. I used to build 1/48th military aircraft, and to tone down or fade decals to match a faded camouflage, I used to spray clear flat with a drop of the basecolour added to it.
You prolly do that anyway but I thought I'd mention it..read it in a mag somewhere and found it works pretty good.

Lanboy, as of rightnow I`m sure they are, but you need to go to Starship Modeler and pm Anubispro about availibility.

Added a wash to her now, i took a few with flash and then without, let me know your thoughts fellas. the lighting is crap in my attic so i need some daylight to take a few more, but im thinking maybe too dark? As it turns out itll end up an amalgamation of the ROTJ and ANH model as i just cant get a full flow of ref pics, most ref seems to be of the ROTJ sadly, but im not tempted to add the ROTJ splodge marks all over, there kind of ugly, ill try some various techniques i guess.

Excellent job so far Lee, I kinda like the ones without the flash, the wash looks real good too. :thumbsup

Thanks guys, its been a bit of a downer here and there as im my own worst critic, but as of today i rubbed her down with fine steel wool and shot a mist over in basecoat, just an ovespray really and its looking much better i think :confused . Got the side docking rings done now so its just down to me to get all the spot washes and scorch marks right. Forgive the lights as i only had a dead 9v to test the engines.

Colors are right, the weathering is nicely done, give us your secret to paint those pieces of art bro .

Colros are really hard to match, when the pics are this "crudly" - here's one I have:

Great job so far Lee. I decieded to wait a bit and let it air out for a week and work on some other stuff.
Jason is right, its hard to get the color right when all pics contridict themselves.
