Destination Moon helmet/costume project

Very sweet job!! I haven't seen this movie for years and years, but it was captivating when I was a youngster. No monsters in rubber suits here, just plain old fashioned science and engineering.

I hope you have equal success with the chest control panels. Bravo!!

Thanks Guys.

Well Bob got the helmet yesterday and was very please. That was the goal. So it was a success.

I can sell a blank if anyone is wanting to mess with makeing one.
The Receivers are vintage operator headset. you can find them on ebay for under $30 you need two. I have a few extras made of the clear plex that goes around the receivers.
The metal ring is Aluminum that was bent to a circle. Then of the suit ring I used a cake springform pan.

So here is how that turned out.

Sweet! :cry

I am so glad that Bob finally got his holy grail. Wear it in good health sir! :D

And this is the kind of thread I like... from concept to finished replica in only one page. :D

Hat's off to you, Stephen! :thumbsup

The Tom Corbett suit BTW is similar but a different design. After Destination Moon came out in 1950, similar suits were made and appeared for years afterwards in various productions as a "standard" representation of a space suit.

Come to think of it, if you enhance that photo a little, Bob has got some fantastic stuff in that room there! :eek

The suit in the photo above looks like this suit: 1950 promotional Destination Moon spacesuit The helmet is the same, and the suit cover looks like the one in the photo.

According to the page, it is a D.M. suit, just one that was made for promotional appearances. Too bad there is not a better view of the waist control box.

David.

There are a bunch of differences between the promotional suit and the ones used in Destination Moon. The zipper on the DM suit is asymmetrical and runs through the cloth "rings" under the neck. The zipper on the promotional suit is up the middle and the neckrings lay over it. The helmets have many differences. The control panel is supported by thick black straps on the DM suits but the straps are absent on the promotional. The DM suits have valves in the torso and leg which are missing on the promotional.

I haven't thoroughly researched the control set yet but here's a shot from the LIFE magazine series.

Bob sent me info on the promo suit but I cant find it right now.
The control panel is going into work next week. Bob has send me some great shots.

Very cool and they actually look better than the originals. I think on the first refference pic you show there is actually a gap visible between the plexy and the helmet.

Stephen's DM helmet was proudly displayed at the Executive Replicas booth at New York Comic Con. :D
