Dexter's blood slide box, custom or found? *possible spoilers*

Thanks for the tip BlindSquirrel.

After looking over rabbit4x's images and seeing the spots on the Screen used box were the clasp and hinges were very likely mounted then moved, I have to agree that this was a re-tooled store-bought item. As a matter of fact, I really think it is this very $70.00 box with the brass hardware moved around, and possibly re-finished:

Great Find guys!!!! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

If there is any updates on a cheaper alternative, please keep us informed!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in those pix of Dexter's box, don't the slides in the box look doubled up? I mean regular slides are just a 1" x 3" glass rectangle. When a sample is put on a slide, a small 1" x 1" cover slip is pressed over it, not a whole second slide.

There are scenes where Dexter puts a small slip cover over the blood and not a whole second slide right?

Thanks blindsquirrel.

Dang, I'm gonna have to get 92 slides!

Still haven't figured out what to use for the blood.

We need to experiment to get the right look for the blood. The dried up blood looks like a slab of kobe beef to me. Well, the pattern at least.

Once I get more shots of the box from Season 2 and after the run for the fifth Element keys are done, I want to tackle this box. Looks like I only get one shot with the expensive slide box.

I've been wanting to make one of these since I saw season 1 last year. I can't imagine it was custom made since it's not a big budget movie. And considering the first season is out on DVD now, there should be some good shots available.

Hopefully i should have a replica of this made within the next 2 weeks, I have the box on order and slides and replica blood (stage type) are already in hand. The box is a modified version from www.emsdiasum.com, on the photos already posted here you can see miniture holes from where the hinges were on the left of the box and the catch holes in the center on the right. There are also good shots on the opening of series 1 episode 6 where the hinges were originally.

Will post some photos once the replica is finished, it will actually be my first homemade prop!

cant wait to see

WHERE IS A NICE CHEAP PLACE TO GET THE SLIDES...

I bought mine off ebay, pack of 100 frosted end slides (100 needed in total for his 46 count) were £7 inc postage. Unfortunately i am still waiting for my box due to customs and the UK postal system losing yet another one of my parcels...

just got my cheapo wood box (side opening )today, pretty close but it looks like only 1 slide can fit in each slot(without filing each slot down), i need to find some fake blood too, is karo syrup with red dye workable ya think for this?

I've found that red food colouring, cornflour and glycerine are the best so far, i've also tried theatre blood and some from a steak dinner but they don't remain droplike on the slide. The cornflour, glycerine and red food colouring give a deep red that lasts on the slide plus it fades at the edges to give an aged look.

On a side note the box finally arrived but was damaged so its a case of waiting for a replacement box, i have encountered the same problem as you with the box only being able to take single slides...currently working on a solution for that one.

Here are some pics of the test slides...
