Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

I know this will sound ridiculous but is there anyone that bought an extra TOS Enterprise willing to sell at cost.
I was not financially ready to commit when they were asking for backers.
The scalpers on Evil-bay are having a field day with this one.
I hope this is not taken like I'm a tightwad.
Thank you.

At this point I highly doubt anyone would let an extra go for cost. They made under 3k of them. The resell price is unlikely to go down. They have literally doubled from the initial eBay reseller prices during the last 12 months. The more that are resold the less that will be up for sale. Should take a good 5 years when we start to see just one or two here or there up for sale.

I actually bought an extra as an investment. I knew this replica would end up becoming valuable since it's the best version of the OS Enterprise. I did the same for the Refit and purchased two of them. Good luck. I recommend you try to get in on a decent price on Ebay. Maybe try to bid on an auction vs a buy it now. You will never be able to get one for the original $600 retail price but sometimes people list one below what the market bears. I think the current going price on Ebay is $2375.

I appreciate your response. You are correct as far as I'll never see one at retail.
I do understand you as far as an investment purposes. I respect that. But there are greedy scalpers out there. I also believe there are honest people too who would sell their extra at cost for those who missed or couldn't afford at the time when it was crowd funded.
Thank you all the same.

I hope it works out for you, and you can get one at a good price.:)

I would get one sooner rather than later. The value is only going to increase especially as we get closer to the Refit release. When that comes out the value of the OS Enterprise is going to explode in my opinion.

I mean, good luck, but anyone who bought two or more almost certainly did so with the goal of selling the extras later at a much higher cost as the value appreciates. There's nothing dishonest about that. It's how the collectible game is played.

I molded the sensor probe that came with the Enterprise because I know I will need to make a replacement when I break it someday. I wish they would have included an extra one... It seems so fragile.

Just build a round2 kit... Its actually better than the Tomy version as far as accuracy goes (The Tomy is very nice not a slight). Its a well designed kit and fairly easy build. You can splurge for the light kit for it and build it yourself for what you'd pay for the TOMY at release. Plus you have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

As a model builder myself, I agree with what you said. I just thought it would be nice to own a piece of history.
These days are kinda hard to set time aside for my hobby. My d*** job has me working 6-7 days a week for the past couple of years, going on year 3.
Thank you for your input. It's much appreciated.
Oh BTW , I built this back in '08.
It still stands today.

All right, I can't abide it any longer.
I have to find a reversible way to frost over the clear bridge.

I actually just put some masking tape over it for a minute and I was like AHHHHHHHHH.

It just looks like they are all about to get sucked into space, to me it just looks like a huge hole in the ship.

The bow light bugs me too, but that I could see just putting a gray decal over, the bridge is curved.

What about trying some of that translucent spray that can be used to make windows a little more private .

If there is something removable, I wonder if there is something that can be peeled off. I have some frost spray but it's pretty much permanent.

If you mean the clear light on the leading edge of the top saucer, yeah, I never got that. Never saw an SFX shot that seems to clearly show it, certainly not brightly lit. Might have been sprayed (mostly) over on the original miniature, but the experts assure us it was there. I deleted it on my build.

I believe there are some more temporary solutions that are more of a waxy spray that can be wiped off afterwards, like they use in the film industry or around the holidays to give the frosted look to windows.

Here are a couple of examples I've found:

Something along the lines of a privacy film or a diffusion gel used for theatrical lighting might work too, but I suspect it would be challenging to apply to the dome shape.

Note: I haven't personally tried any of these, so your mileage may vary and will likely want to test this out thoroughly before applying to the model.

Exactly that. Not a fan of it. If there it should be barely there.

I just tried some thin styrene sheet but it won't warp much under heat. I don't think what I have is the thinnest though. Maybe something thinner designed to conform to shapes. Privacy film may work if it will warp under heat. I don't want to cook the bridge, but a hair dryer isn't going to do much.

Had some of this stuff on hand for paint masking. Rough quick test to see if it was plausible.
Doubled it up as it is not frosted enough for one layer, so there are some bubbles
I think I could avoid those by rolling the two layers together more carefully.
Heated it with hairdryer and it conforms and stretches. May work after getting
some practice and developing a method.

When I had the chance to buy a Master Replicas Millennium Falcon, I had the money but no space. I never considered what the price might do later. Then I also wished I bought not one but two. When I had the chance to get the DeAgostini MF, I jumped on it and bought two. Now, if I wanted to, I could sell the spare one for about...what it originally cost. In the case of the OS Enterprise, I really don't like the design at all. But I guess I wish I had bought one now. It's like you have to have a sixth sense for this stuff. Good luck. I guess at this point, it's good luck falling into a bucket of cash as opposed to good luck finding one at a price you could otherwise stomach.

Not sure there’s enough upside to buy any of this sh..stuff for an investment, esp. on just one or two copies. That’s what my 401k and IRAs are for. ;)
