Dirty Harry props

Yes, all the detail was etched and you could feel it. I have one of the actual movie prop thin badges (not Harry's, a background actor) and I'll see if I can dig it up and post pics.

Wow, fantastic! I would love to see that. Thanks, eltee! :D :thumbsup

I have a screen used police forensics kit used in at least one of the Dirty Harry movies, but i'm unsure as to which one... got it from a prop house several years back, and like many studio props it had been used in more films than just Dirty Harry.

My other "prop" is a real Smith & Wesson Model 29-3 44 Magnum. Mine is the nickel plated version, though... Harry's was black (gunblue). Mine is more like the one Sledge Hammer used. While the S&W 44 Mag was never really "The most powerful handgun in the world", it DOES pack one heck of a punch! I tell you, when you shoot a pistol that sends a basketball-sized ball of flame out the barrel every time you fire, you tend to get a crowd around you. I can only put a couple dozen shells through it at the range before I have to put it away... it's the only gun I own that actually makes my hand hurt!

I love SLEDGE HAMMER!

Does anyone (Gary maybe ?) have a decent scan of Callahan's ID pic ?
I picked up an old blank SFPD ID card a while back and scanned it. Just working on the details now.

It'd be nice to find one of the thin badges. Is there any info on the badge case Harry used ? I can't find anything exact but Sun badge seem to do a close one.

Great info here. The S&W model 29 was also used by Rodger More as James Bond in Live and Let Die when he goes to blow up the poppy fields. It was nickle plated however.

Anyway, nobody has mentioned the shoulder holster worn by Dirty Harry to carry the model 29. It's still available and is known as "The Original Dirty Harry Shoulder Holster". It's available here:

www.LawmanLeatherGoods.com

and has a very interesting history. By the way, it's not the same shoulder holster rig used by Rodger Moore.

I've just finished these. Now waiting on another wallet or two but sadly an SFPD Lieutenant's badge won't be on my limited budget shopping list

Thanks Marc.
It's just printed paper artwork which I glued to a thin metal backing to give it some shape, then I used a gold paint pen and black ink to add more colour and sealed it with varnish.

Does anyone have a photograph of the badge & wallet included with the Dirty Harry DVD boxset ?

I'm just curious what it looks like.

Thanks, eltee! I'm delighted to know this!

On the "thin profile" badge, were all of the borders around the text and pattern photoetched? It's hard to see the etching in the screenshot, although the new information from you makes me think that if you drew your thumb gently across the face of the star you would feel the slight indentations of the etching.

Was Harry's screen-seen badge, in fact, authentic?

And are you able to tell us the thickness of the brass used for these "thin profile" stars?

It's funny that they never caught on because they "looked too phoney." :lol

Thank you very much, as always, for the inside view! :love :thumbsup

Sorry this took so long. I forgot about it, then ran across the old display case I kept it in. Here is a pic of the "real" etched badge that never caught on. Clearly much more precise and detailed than the screen used Harry badge. As you can see in these pics, using the flash makes it look flat and even more fake.

Thanks, eltee, for sharing those photos.

Wow! With the flash, the etching seems to vanish completely, and the badge looks a lot like a photocopy stuck to a piece of cardboard!
