DL-44 ESB Blaster Discussion - Greeblies POST 208

This thread is only for discussion the parts.

Discussions of sales, runs, costs. etc could get this thread in trouble.

Please check the runs thread for info about your question.

Ok... It's time for me to decide on the muzzle I want for my Solo Hoth blaster. I've been looking back through the early discussion about the knurling and theories.

Here's the thing... I have a whole take on what is being seen. I actually think the knurling is the same as the Bespin (3 rows). I know in compassion to others here, I lack a lot of knowledge regarding the history of this prop. But I also know that sometimes small details that have been thought to be something or debated for many years can turn out to be something completely different when a new image is revealed or part found.

If I look at the pictures accepting the fact that there are 3 rows, I can see that possibility more than any others of the theories. I think the unevenness of the dark weathering, resolution of even the best images and possibly dulled knurling, or maybe even layers of paint is hiding the fact there are 3 rows.

My objective of this post is not to change people's minds but I just want to see if anybody can say that I am not completely crazy for going with a Bespin muzzle in my order.

That's what I'm thinking at this point.

I would feel better about my decision if I could get some here to say at least something like... "Ok, yes. I see what you mean. That could be plausible but I give the odds about 15% chances of being correct."

I have always thought the Hoth flash hider was a resin copy of the Bespin Flash Hider.

I figure the knurling is a by product of the casting process but I can't explain why the front edge where the cone meets the body has a camphor instead of a radius.

Yes, I see what you mean. Assuming it is cast off the Bespin, there is no real telling what could happen in the prop building process. Maybe they cast the muzzle in two parts;,the cone and the cylinder and then they had to attach them together. Or maybe the sanded or lathed it a bit to get some ruffness out. I'm just tossing things out there. But I would imagine that even the best plans by prop builders go astray and they have to find a way to make things work.

I found this book when I was at work today and thought I'd throw it into the mix. Only one question though - ESB or ROTJ?

Does anyone else see a notched light port in this pic? In the promo pics Han's blaster clearly has an unbroken, brass colored circle on the side. This looks more like Luke's to me. Anyone?

It is hard to keep up with new blaster prop info so I do not know if this is still true or not: I believe it is Luke's and that is why they sometimes refer to it as Luke/Han shared blaster.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought but I wasn't sure. So...does he even use the 'Han Blaster" in the movie?

:lol Trying to think, all the reference pics I have for the Bespin blaster seem to be promo pictures

He shoots the probe droid with the Hoth Blaster & he shoots at Vader with Luke's Blaster, which one does he have in the space slug/asteroid scene?

the Luke ESB gets loads of screen time on Bespin but Han doesn't get the chance to use his much

I always assumed the Bespin blaster was in his holster for the Bespin scenes & indoor Hoth scenes

but I could be wrong, need to watch ESB again :lol

It's hard to see anything in the space slug scene, but here's an interesting angle of the top of the gun.

And it's always a good time to watch ESB again :D

Reading the above I now realise why its so hard to say categorically which blaster features go with which blaster, and what features 'one' should have to emulate them correctly.

Among other things, I hadn't realised that the promo Han Bespin may not have been used in the film ?!

remember there's that weird resin stunt with the ANH flash hider that gets screen time on Dagobah. I've seen it in a holster on display somewhere I believe too - I always thought they carried resin guns in their holsters to make filming easier.

I don't know how true this is but I would also imagine the possibility that resin props might need to be utilized based on country laws and/or import restrictions.
