You guys are in luck. I didn't want to delay the run since everyone who has put in orders already are no doubt anxious to get their kits - but the weather this morning in PA was so severe I was without Internet until just now and I was unable to access the Shapeways website to place the order.

I'll give you until tomorrow night if you still want in - send your orders my way (follow the directions in the first post of this thread) and I'll add you, but you need to be able to make payment ASAP - by tomorrow 9pm EST at the latest!

Hi Doc, I have only just seen this thread & just want wanted to check to see if I can still get one of these kits. I can sort it all out before tomorrow if it's not already too late. Thanks

Doc,

Please tell me you received my payment.
You're good! I got payment from everyone on the list. If your name/order on the first post is green, you're in the clear!

If you can send me your order and payment by 9pmEST tonight, you're in! I haven't seen emails from the other two members that chimed in last minute but I don't want to delay the order much longer so be swift! Refer to the first post on how to submit your order and send that in ASAP.

I just watched the video for the first time. I thought I was excited before. Wow was I wrong! I really can not wait to get this kit now.

Okay, run is SUPER closed now lol. I couldn't say no to the last minute folks but their orders are in and everyone is paid up, so it's time to put the order in!

Go figure, Shapeways is being difficult!

I uploaded the group of emitter heads (39 total) to print in the FUD material and the price was way high - almost twice as much as the test print of 30 emitter heads I uploaded a month ago to gauge the cost. I'm trying to sort the problem out now on the forums to see if it's a bug or if they changed the pricing for that material like they did for the WSF plastic - I don't see any indication of a different price so I'm assuming it's an issue with the algorithm they use to calculate price. I uploaded the same group of 39 emitters again and the price jumped another $50! What the actual eff...

Something is really wacky and I unfortunately can't put the full order in until I figure this out or I'm covering the costs out of my own pocket. Sit tight, people - as always, I'll keep everyone posted as things progress.

Problem solved! Silly me, I thought the previous version of the file I uploaded was the same as the new one but I had made changes to strengthen the emitter without considering the extra cost of material :facepalm I made changes to bring the cost back down but kept thicker walls on the lower half of the emitter so it'll be stronger where it clips into the fin assembly and where the wires line up with the three larger holes.

So the order is placed! If Shapeways doesn't screw it up (fingers crossed), the estimated date to complete the order is March 11 - a it later than I had hoped but some last minute folks wanted in on the run and I couldn't turn them away! I'll keep you posted in a few weeks when the order ships to me.

I had a few members email me inquiring about the cost to paint and finish the kit for them and the price I determined that would make it worth the time it takes wasn't very appealing to them in particular but I figure I'll post the offer here in case anyone else is interested and has some extra tax return money to burn. While I do enjoy the prospect, it takes quite a long time to complete - around five days to let coats dry properly and to do all the fine details, weathering, etc - but if I do a number of them at once it will take less time per sonic.

I can offer a fully painted sonic for an extra $150 each but if I can get five or more people interested, I can do it for $120 instead. It will be similar finish to the prototype but a tad nicer since I have the experience and knowledge from doing the first one, plus you'll have a choice of a painted or dyed emitter. It'll be a week or two turn around time from when I get the kits from Shapeways and I'll send them to you in pieces to be assembled like normal. Along with the painting offer comes cleaning, of course, and proper fitting of the pieces so it will essentially be the completed prop that you'll have in your hands when all is said and done.

If anyone's interested, give a shout. It's not a commitment by any means, I'm just throwing it out there for curiosity's sake.

Just need a recap on the paints, stains, and dyes you recommended, and prayers for them to turn out as well as yours!

I as well will need a recap. I can't seem to find the older forum with the details.

I linked to a PDF in the first post where I cover all the materials I used, the process of cleaning the pieces, and assembly in there. I also included a walk through of my own process. Here it is again:
