Equalist Electrified Glove from Avatar: The Legend of Korra

do you sell those 3d parts??? want to make one for my girlfriend :p

I plan to, just got to get it all working right. The latest print has been ordered and should arrive Monday. It'll have the larger size parts for the back of the hand (in a more castable and stronger design) along with the finger covers.

I plan to cast as much of it as I can so people can have them at a lower cost and I'm trying to figure out a good way to do the fingers so they're more affordable as well. I've got an idea, but I'll probably make what I've got available before I start testing that method.

Got the parts in:

The tubes on the side are perhaps a bit too large, but I think they'll look smaller once I get the rest of the glove on with it. I think it'll look better in photos at this size anyways. :)
The side parts fit perfectly into the core and I think this will work wonderfully when cast!

The only issue I have is I made the pinkie cover a tad too large, but nothing too hard to fix. :)

Wow, it's really looking good! I agree that it's hard to tell how everything is going to look before it's put together, but I agree that the tubes may be a bit large. Proportionally, they look spot on, but it seems like the scale is a little off. Based on the first pic with all the gloves in the boxes, it looks like the tubes are about the same width as the finger pieces, if that's any kind of helpful gauge.

Sorry for the lack of activity folks; I've got some material to cast these in now and will see how well that goes. Also have some leather and when I get a full glove made I will provide a free doc with designs to make the rest of the glove. :)

I had hoped to have these available before Halloween but my day job and other work has taken priority.

Also I have been informed the price I paid for 3D printing the fingertips is better then I could do trying any other method of making them. Do need to correct the size of the pinkie but I will make those available for people as well.

Another update; molded the parts and with a few minor flaws (this being the first attempt) they turned out great!

This one actually contains a part of the original model; I didn't realize how fragile the material was and it actually broke apart when I attempted to remove it, so I just poured into it and let that thicken the material so it could be removed easier.
Overall, for the first mold I have ever made, it turned out great. I'll make a couple more to be sure they continue that way. ;)

I broke the print of the center peice when removing it from the mold and the mold had air trapped inside the two tubes in it. I'm waiting for the replacement part to come to start casting them; it's already been set to be printed so I hope to get it within a week from now.
The good side of this is the base part that will hold it onto the fabric/leather was thin so I thickened it up for the reprint. I'll also fill it with resin before casting it to make the printed part stronger. (Live and learn.)

I've got a thread going inquiring about cold cast alternatives to achieve a brass, bronze, and copper finish; if anyone has a suggestion, please pop over and leave a comment!

Your doing great work with this project and I cant wait until it is all done. I did want to ask, if it would be ok to download your 3D file into a pep file?

I went ahead and got the metal powder so I will make blanks and cold cast metal versions!

Do you mean Paprika?
I'm afraid my lowest level of detail that I work in would be far too much for this to set up for you to print and piece together.

I do plan to make these available at a highly affordable price (IMHO). I HOPE to have the first proper cast done tomorrow (had issues with the first two molds) so stay tuned!
I will make patterns for the other items needed to complete the gloves available. I will also make the finger covers available at cost ( they're thin but durable and expensive!)

Mold Complete!
(It only took four attempts! :facepalm )

These are the first two of the Electrified Glove Kits! Better pictures to come!

It seems my good camera has a nasty habit of growing legs every time I need it. :p
I think I'll put a post in the Junkyard and see if how much interest there is in them.
I should also note there is another part coming in the mail not pictured: the part for the palm. It was a quickie, but should look well and be about the right size.

I've got an Interest thread in the Junkyard:

I've now updated the thread in the Junkyard to a For Sale thread!

I don't think I ever posted the final results of the glove I made for my wife's Asami glove using TheAtomicSoul's kit above. I actually found a great guantleted gardening glove as a base that game in the perfect colors to match Asami's grey and burgundy outfit, so we made this as though Asami had customized a new glove of her own. The middle finger cap was a tad long, but in general it worked wonderfully. There were very small gaps around the edges of the green center setting that was allowing light from the white LEDs to bleed through, but that was easily solved by replacing them with green LEDs so the bleed wasn't noticeable. My wife is always frustrated that she has no "action pose" when the rest of our Team Avatar is doing bending poses, so she is excited to now have something with which to attack!

Awesome-- I'm glad it works well for her! :D

I had hoped they would bring the gloves back into play a bit more, but I'm glad she's still carrying one around!
(With the show going back to TV next season I'll still be hoping! )

The hardest thing to figure out how to make was - surprisingly - the tiny insert for holding the cords to the palm piece. I had printed it then got it in and made 4-5 small molds trying to get it to work right. Even when I figured out a trick to keep the inside holes positioned right it tool severl casts to get a decent one. I'd make it an entirely different way if I were to redo that tiny thing. :p
