Fate of the Galileo shuttlecraft full size.

I know for a fact that that place is borderline going out of business all the time. Although he is still pouring money into, Paul Allen has made it clear that it must become self sustaining or it will close.

Of course that doesn't mean his stuff will go to hell, but if it's just sitting in a box somewhere it might as well be gone.

Given Paul Allen's keen interest and deep pockets I doubt his collection will suffer the same fate as the Galileo.
I agree with that, I'm sure he has some legacy in mind, but it does bring up memories of the old Movieworld Museum. And now he must have a good number of props from that old place. Eventually somebody will follow him.

Real shame about the G, given where(and how) it was stored I'm sure it's a loss. If it ended up somewhere in the SW US it would have had a much better chance.

At least it's documented, so it can be recreated. I know it isn't the same, but that's all we got.

What a damn shame!
Here's a composite image of the aerial shots. I feel like I'm showing off pictures of a dead friend...:confused

odd... that discolored patch of ground looks like a cloaked BOP...hmmm.

Well none of that was the original wood as we know it was replaced.

So who cares about that.

The metal frame we DO care about and the engine nacelles.
The frame no doubt may be lost.

There is no evidence yet the engine nacelles were ever on that lot.
So maybe they are still around somewhere.

And did they keep any of the original wood before the last resto????

I don't know if the roof collapsed or not, but remember the rear end of the thing is already oddly shaped, and who knows the condition of the tarp.

I can't imagine it not being intact somewhere, just because of what was mentioned previously: We live in an eBay society. Even if it were a moldering hulk on a rusty frame, it would command a big pile of money from some rabid fan. It looks like in the restoration photos that a lot of work went into it, could someone be so oblivious as to what they had to actually destroy it?

Does anyone have an address for this place?

I have to be in Akron on Sunday, I'll go there if I can.

I think it has been visited already by folks looking for clues.
You probably would be going over ground already covered.

I do live fairly close to the last known location, but it would seem a futile exercise now to try to find it. :cry

Hopefully some of the bits were saved before the property was razed.

It would take me 3 to 4 hours to get there from my house.
I wish I lived closer or I would go look.

First let me say that while I haven't read the whole thread, for some reason this just doesn't sit well with me. It's obsessive and to me at least it feels like an invasion of privacy. I know this particular piece is important to a lot of you, but it is or was a private owner with private property. Deal with it.

All I'm saying is if that were me, I'd be PISSED that somebody else was making such a racket over what I did with MY property ON my property and posting photos of it online, regardless of whether the pics came from aerial or satellite photography. Put yourself in their shoes and somebody doing the same thing of your backyard because they were unhappy with the way you had something stored.

The satellite/aerial imagery cat is well out of the bag a looooooong time ago. Nobody violated any laws, this is all public domain information. There was no trespassing nor anything anyone would have learned simply by looking into the property from public streets on the ground.

As a private pilot, I personally can see plenty of backyards and have often taken aerial photos myself of my own neighborhood.

People have a certain expectation of privacy. I realize that the business where the lot and shuttle were located has gone under and is gone now. This still strikes me as excessive. It's called private property for a reason. You guys aren't a young Indiana Jones trying to steal a crucifix. Again if somebody was posting pictures of my property (former or not) online and making a huge stink of it, I'd be pretty upset. It's not a child or a dog.

You going to the store and buying milk is in the public domain too. Doesn't mean you'd be happy with people posting pictures of you online doing it and talking about it. "THIS GUY DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF HIS CAR IT IS IN NEED OF A SERIOUS WASHING! I took these pictures of his car while he was at the store buying milk!" "Guys I'm gonna go down to his house or place of work and see if he's washed his car yet!"

It's a moot point.

A friend of mine who has tracked the Galileo for many years recently spoke with the property's current owner. The mock-up no longer exists. At all. It is gone. Finis. End of story.
