Starting to do some detail painting... First side done with random high specular panelling...
After i done all the sides Ill do a little pencilling lines too ... Then do an AO/dirst pass wetting the model then dabbing in thinned paint and wiping away... And then the little brass/yellow block/panels to do.

I was looking over the reference pics again as I've kinda been going off memory for a bit and I noticed some issues.... D:
It looks like I've made my top layer too dense, and should have made layer 2 more dense... Too late to do anything about that now.

BUT... I've also made my cube too light. The base coat should have been darker and slightly hues towards brown.

Not entirely sure what to do about that. Im not going to repaint it all at this stage. I simply dont have the time to do that. (i need to move out within 6 week)

So when I add the dirt pass I'm going to add some brown to the dirt. And hopefully it'll help balance that out a little.

But while maybe not accurate to the original model. I do like the panelling shading ive done. It helps break things up and helps fool the brain into thinking theres more detail than there is :D I dont want to loose that.

Also seeing that second image. I can see more model objects Ive totally neglected to make D:

I like my cube but its clear its no where near as close to the original as Id really like it to be...

PS the yellow/brass bits will be added a little later.

Ya, it was on the outermost layer that we added model kit parts to increase the details.
As I recall, we base painted the cube with flat black primer, and then painted a dark grey coat over that. Then we went to town with tiny paint brushes to pick out those little colored areas with yellow, orange, red, white, gold and silver. Probably some light grays as well.

Yours looks phenomenal!

Wow I actually love this. Finally a decent explanation for why they didn't just send like, two cubes together after one was barely stopped.

Soooo its done*...............

Sort of....
I finally got round to finishing the gold bits. I've been doing a lot of packing lately as I'm moving in 2 weeks. So I've not had the time to do this sooner...

I say done* as I've not done the white bits like on the studio model yet.
The thing is Im not sure im going to. I'm still not entirely sold on the gold bits, I know the studio model has it, but in the movie they colour graded a lot of that out.

When I do the VFX shots I plan to do with this. I will likely do the same.

I also need to rewire the mains back in. I had to unwire it to take it out to paint the new base coats.

Anyway I think Im calling it done... For now.

At some point I want to make a acrylic box to put around it as its already catching dust.

As I say I'm moving in 2 weeks. (the whole house thing has finally happened lost my home going into rented as I find a downsized place to buy)

Once I'm settled in a bit, I'm going to crack on with the build video for the channel.

Anyway heres a couple more picks.
