You could have helped me with my Vader I did in 79 (after seeing ESB).

??? Did you have access to a time-machine? :p

Cheers,

Wow thanks SirJediKnightTim for dredging up a cool old thread--sadly it looks like many of the old pic links are now busted--any chance of a fix, Paul? Those costumes are seriously amazing. My buddies and I made really elaborate KISS costumes back in the late 90s in college and also won a bunch of costume contests that year. It's VERY COOL that you kept good pictures and, more importantly, that you've stayed in touch with the participants over the years. Those are really fantastic costumes. If I saw you back in 1981 (I was 6) I would have thought Luke, Han and Leia had jumped off the screen. Just awesome. :)

Wow.. a year later and I just now catch the thread.

that is amazing. It's hard to believe you did that back in 1981. Awesome job.... and the photo looks amazing. You should have that blown up and framed ;)

i'm right here with ya Cal, i missed this one.
You guys look fantastic. I was 14 when i saw ROTJ.
I would have flipped out if i saw you all at my theater.
Not only did yu guys get the costumes right you got the hairdos as well.
And the resmblences to the actors/actress is astonishing.
I'm sorry but it just blows me away. Very cool indeed. Thanks for for posting it and fixing the pix;-)

Wow Pauleysolo, that's a GREAT feat in costuming and prop making back in the early days, in this case 1981 when there is no such thing as references via the Internet, online forums or website references / resources. :thumbsup

Please do post more of these nostalgic pictures when you've locate them from your storage. :)

Will do sith overlord

Those hairdo's were our hairstyles back then - it was 1981-83 so that is how we looked.

When I find a few more rare fan pics from my archive I will post them since there is more interest.

Yes, we did have a blast back then, people's mouths were always hanging open- and we were constantly asked when and where Lucasfilm/20th Century Fox would have us appear next- this was way before the concept of the 501st was born. We would just smile and say "you never know- perhaps somewhere in your galaxy" or "wherever hyperspace deposits us next" . .. :D :D

Just adding myself to the list of those blown away by that photo ... and your costumes as well. That is amazing. 1981 and you had it nailed. Wow.

Your welcome. I'm so impressed by that photo, I had to bump it. Anybody who has tried to wear a Star Wars (or any) costume knows that doing a little "acting" is what sells the costume. And these guys really nailed it. I was 8 years old, almost 9 when I saw Star Wars at the theatres. I would've flipped to see these guys. But it really brings me back seeing this photo. They really look like they come from that Star Wars era. Unlike in 2007, I think everybody was skinny back then :)

Really nice photo... I would love to see more, and I know others would too...

Wow, great job. Just amazing that you were able to identify some of the found parts back in '81.

Wow - you guys look amazing. If I had seen you then I would have flipped too. I was 9.

All of the costumes look great even by today's standards. In fact they look better than most. The Luke Bespin is amazing.

Please share more details on how you put all this together.

Actually we were all in film school at the time. Luke and I were college roomates and big SW fans- as everyone was back then. It was a pretty magical time- right in the middle of the original trilogy.

We actually got caught up in the costuming for a college Halloween party and it kind of took an a life of its own as we met other like-minded students and friends and we all just got a kick out of presenting the illusion that the characters just walked off the screen. We ended up doing a LOT of costumes, and going to a lot of events, winning a lot of costume contests and making a lot of little kids happy. Pretty much every major character in the original trilogy. I'll post some more archive pictures as I find them. I did most of the leather and prop work, another friend did all the patterns and costumes, and Leia made her own costumes. Chewie was 6 ft 5 without the costume. In costume, he was like 7 feet tall.
