Giger Alien '79 head refurb

Hi Cavx, I will measure it tonight. I think if i remember correctly its around 38X12X14 but i'm just guessing though.

I will need a few weeks, but I want to test my reverse vacuum form idea on this. If it works, it might just save you Xeno guys some $$$ in making your own molds. And if you guys don't want it, I will be on my way to own my own Xeno :)

Anyway, I think that so long as the top template of the box is the correct size and shape, that I can make the dome full scale. Only the sides need to be hard fixed in place. I think, based on how the white 3mm perspex dome pulled last time, that so long as the plastic is heated enough to soften it, that it will want to make a huge round dome. The fixed sides and elliptical cutout at the top shape the base and the plastic will simply pull from the centre curving the top shell. If that makes sense?

After the first is made, I think (will need to test this) that Expanda-Foam is all that will be needed to make the rest of the mold. It is only there to rest the plastic on and stop an over pull. It is under vacuum the whole time and I don't the heat will be an issue either because that is removed once the plastic moves.

the measurements for the dome would be, 34.5 X 7.5 X 8.5 again these aren't really correct. i won't have exact dimensions until i have the dome sculpted because it does bulge out farther on the sides. the measurements given is where the dome would be sitting. (not sure if i'm explaining that right)

That would be great if you are willing to experiment with a negative pull. I would be happy to ship you a silicon mould of the dome once i have it done.

Thanks again for all the help and info you have provided, it is greatly appreciated :)

So would those be internal measurements of the dome?

I am going to be making a jig for my Gen2 Tube Bag in the next 2 weeks, so that will at least give some indication of the possibilities. Just the thought of a clear tube bag has me salivating like a Xeno right now...

yes these would be inside where the dome meets the head.

I will try and get some foam or clay this weekend and try to block out a basic shape. so i can give you accurate measurements.

Excellent. Looking forward to this.

Why does this double post?

thanks for the info cavx, i haven't been able to do any work on this, i closed on a house so in the middle of working on that and moving. so once i get settled again. i will start back up.

Look forward to seeing your progress on this when you can get back into it.

I was googling images and found heaps of Xenos without domes (I understand JC removed the domes for ALIENS) and few with painted smooth domes. I only found one or two with a clear dome and think some of this might be down to the challenge of making the part. So I hope this is of use and can help you achieve the look of the 1979 alien.

After my massive saga with Marty I got an alien head (not from him!) - 'Aliens' warrior in design. What I wouldn't give for a Giger!

Best of luck to you - watching this thread with interest!

It's apoxie sculpt, really good stuff. sticks to mostly anything, air dries, and is very hard and strong when cured.

Hello plastik46, when you put new progress?
In your opinion, you can iron this clay with a rolling pin and get layers of 1 or 2 mm?
I do it with a clay, cellulose-based, and can fill in a homogeneous way, so I do not find it hard to sand, because the layer of clay differs little from the original surface.

you put some pictures of your head?

Hi!

I bought a Sideshow 1:1 'Aliens' warrior bust - never got anything from Marty, nor my money back :(

Indeed, someday I would love a Giger! Now to play the lottery :D

Not sure if it would roll that thin, i wouldn't see why not though. i would get a small batch and do some tests with it. i would use water if your rolling it so it doesn't stick.
