Ginger Snaps - 1:6 scale Sculpts

Worked a little more on it, but not much. (YAY for the rainbow-colors... even though it's not too colorful yet. :lol)

Have settled on a pose:

Guess I like having one bent and one straight arm... hehe... :)

Well, I hadn't baked it... I wasn't even finished working on those sections... but they got hard anyway and then cracked... impossible to work with now - I guess I have to break off the super sculpey in those areas and redo it. :cry

Guess I was a little fast in dismissing the super sculpey's workability... even the cracked parts - it seems it is slightly possibly to still shape it, however little, so it's not a completely loss... though, still a bit annoying. Guess the Super Sculpey is a bit too old or it's too cold here or something, since it dried out and cracked like that. Weird.

Well... though I do not have enough Super Sculpey for the other two figures in this set, I think I will start shaping out the inner structure soon, so I got the basic shapes down - can't wait to do the lycanthrope... ooh... and also the faces. :thumbsup Prolly should have gone for the less buttoned up get-up on these two... but hey... there's time to do sexy(er) versions later, once I've practiced some more... :lol

I'm getting really annoyed at this thing... the super sculpey hardens and cracks and there is nothing I can do about it - I though I had it worked out, but nope... no such luck. Will put the body part of the project on hold and focus on the head sculpts instead. May just have to rethink this whole project... but oh well... easy comes easy goes - this could be an opportunity to go for the first movie V1 or V2 Ginger make-up version instead, in bust form... just throwing out ideas here... but may take a stab at one of the wolf designs too (though, these will probably be interpretations and recreations, rather than direct and screen accurate sculpts).

Man, I hate when things don't go smoothly... grr... :confused

Really hope to at least have SOMETHING to show soon...

I don't know if this is the reason, but probably your super sculpey starts cracking because you are working over the clay... Maybe it's a weird reaction...

I've been thinking the same thing. Would it have any effect to seal the clay inner body with some form of clear coat or primer, so that the clay and super sculpey won't come in direct contact?

I may be able to preserve most of the front applied super sculpey, but the collar needs to be redone completely. I think I will try and seal it with something before continuing.

In the meantime I think I will shift over to a bust display piece instead, which means that I will have to start working on the faces soon - YAY. :)
Need to buy some more Super Sculpey... :confused

Well, at least you don't need to import the Sculpey into your country (I suppose), while, here in Italy you can't find it in ANY store. (c'mon, we are know for our art, and we don't have the most famous polymer clay of the world in a art store? This is insane... Ooops, sorry for the rant :D )
BTW, a bust sounds more interesting, especially because that long coat could be "boring" to the eye if not worked properly (you know, a nice texture, wrinkles, etc...), so keep posting (your Mal too. :D )

Oh... I haven't found anyone selling it here where I live... though... it IS a SH***Y town so that may explain it... I bout the sculpey through eBay... but have heard that there may be a cheaper option to buy through a UK store or something... still checking for cheapest prices.

I agree. It's just that I'm so in love with that style of clothes... but winter clothes are always a bit boring... hehe... if I had done them in their corsets and petty-coats I think it would have been a different matter completely... and will be how I'll approach them - most likely - if I try full figures of them again. But busts it is... just have to get me some super sculpey... and money still sux. :cry

The Sculpey will crack if you don't knead it enough. Make sure you completely work it over with your hands before sculpting. If the Sculpey is old it can also become brittle. You can revive it with a small amount of Sculpey dilutent (sold in small, cheap bottles)

I know you may be on a budget but try to buy some of the new Super Sculpey Firm. The investment will pay off in the long run.

Best of luck.

Strange thing is... I didn't knead the sculpey when applying it to the Mal sculpt and it rarely cracked... but I kneaded it before applying to this sculpt and it cracked consistently... weird. Guess the sculpey is getting old or something.

I'll see what I can do with getting some new stuff soon...

Started working on one of the heads - won't show it until I have come to the likeness part of the sculpt.

Until then, here's a picture of the what I'm aiming for now... somewhat... outfit-wise, etc.

These are gonna be busts, btw - both girls and a wolf. Can't wait to see this one taking shape. ;)

I've never see this movie(s), but I'm curios about the result, since your Mal's face have a great likeness to the actor, so... :)
