Has anyone done a HL-10 Lifting body?

It's a Silver Airplane.
(Joking)

I agree that it's too bad there isn't more color photos.

Saturday morning special. Here is the X-24A attached to the B-52 wing. It's too bad there are so many photos that are not in color . . . I don't really get why.

Here is the display from the Air Force Museum. Notice the Gemini Capsule in the background. This was what was called "Blue Gemini" which was an Air Force version that had a hatch in the back where the heat shield is that opened to a space station . . . that was never built. The capsule in the photo I believe is the one that actually flew on at modified Titan 3B which had a smiluated spacestation stage. Really a strange looking bird; extremely long.

Feek, do you take your HL out for a run once in awhile? I really envy you for owning one.

Here is a nice photo of the back-end of the M2-F3:

This photo was before they re-routed the fuel jettison up the back of the vertical stabilzers (which was done after a fire started from the fuel jet area; see post #63).

Lifting Body Picture of the Day - TGIF Edition!

To go along with yesterdays picture here is a photo of the back-end of the HL-10:

Here is a stainless steel wind tunnel test article of the HL-10. That is heat sensitive paint which would change color at a certain temperature. It was used to determine heating characteristics of the air frame:

Finally a great picture of the X-24B and the HL-10 in May of 1976. Both were being transported (via the pregnent guppy) to the Kennedy Space Center for the Bicentinnial Expo that was displayed the summer of that year:

I sure hope someone does one of these lifting bodys for all of us!

It's really hard to get right angle views of the X-Planes because of how crowded the hanger is.

I need to get them to move all the planes out so I can get good photos and measurements. :D

NOT!

I'm happy enough that they allow you to get this close.

WOW, those are the best photos hands-down!!! I love them; thanks for posting them. I see all kinds of cool stuff in the background as well. Hummm, X-15 #2, XLR-99 engine, X-10, X-13, XB-70, looks like a Merlin P-58 engine back there; very cool. You are very lucky to be close enough to visit quit probably the greatest aviation museum in the world. It looks like you can walk right up to them? Thanks for posting the photos Scot . . . . and anymore are welcome, lol.

One more thing, they have REALLY done a great job making the SV5J look just like the X-24A. It looks just like it and it's good to see it with the gear down!!

Here are a couple "vintage" photos of the X-24B in action (some with the white paint and some without):

Notice that on some of these photos the back top and side is painted white. During the glide flights they maintained their aluminum skin but once the rocket was installed sections of the aircraft were painted white for tracking at high altitudes. Same with the X-24B which went through three different paint schemes ending up all white.

Here you go.

It may take me a while to get all the photos up because my dog chewed up my usb cable so I have to upload them from my PSP.
