Hi

Have you tried 2-component automotive putty? I´m using it for my car models and I´m very happy with the results. The best thing is that it doesn´t shrink and it cures much faster. Modeling putty from tubes always shrinks and after weeks it results in badly warped parts.

You can search my thread for the Gran Turismo Camaro. That model was done with automotive putty called NIGRIN Feinspachtel. You can get it for a few buck in Marktkauf for example. After I have sanded the puttied areas to shape I added a very fine layer of SIMPROP Schnellspachtel weiss to get the final surface.

Cheers,
Kevin

you know you can use this only for tiny pinholes and cracks, right? The spot putty will crack if you try to fill anything bigger than that.

There is something similar in your HomeDepot-like (Bauhaus, Hornbach, etc) Its in the section where you also find 2K automotive bondo.

Umm try brands like Carplan, Holts, they used to make glazing/spot putty, its a UK brand, so im sure itll be available in Europe?

Try looking for Dolphin Glaze. It is a 2 component putty, that sands very easily. Much better than the old bondo. It is made by UPOL. They are a European company, so it may be easier to find. Check with an automotive paint, and body supply store in your area.

Hi, I was wondering, is bondo a brand or just another name for putty?

Up till now, I was only able to get 2 component epoxy here in Germany. Do you know what the difference is between bondo and epoxy? If there is one ;-)

Thank you all!

Bondo is a brand of automotive body filler made by 3M. They make the red glazing putty to fill holes and bubbles that are created from mixing the two part stuff. Bondo has become a generic term for body filler in the US (and probably Canada) the way "Hoover" is used for vacuum cleaners in England. I use a brand called Evercoat because the research I did showed that people who work on cars like it a lot more than Bondo.

You can also use superglue and baking soda as a kind of resin/filler compound. Sands really well and cures super fast. Just be aware that the reaction is exothermic so do it in thin layers rather than one thick one to avoid burning your job. I've used it quite successfully for patching up my race bike fairings on a number of occasions.
