Hi everyone. I'm brand new here but I've been lurking for a while. I thought I'd introduce myself and see if I could get some guidance on my next costume Captain America. I believe the version I'm making is called TFA. The WW2 outfit he evidently breaks out in the new movie. I was wondering what were your suggestions for bringing everything together. I'm really JUST in the planning phase right now with the exception of having already purchased a replica 1911 holster. I guess here are my specific questions that some of you amazing awesome people here can help guide me toward Ally victory on.

The suit- I was going to purchase and upgrade is. I found one by a leather seller on eBay called LeatherWears. Can't seem to bring up a link. Now here's the question on that: Should I go leather? Some of the reference pictures I"m seeing seem to be more denim. You all are the experts here. Let me know what you think and where to buy if you have a place in mind more than anywhere else. I was going to purchase their jacket and pants and then sew in a zipper to make it a cohesive suit.
The accessories- Working on the belt. Probably not going to be too screen accurate but I have some stuff in mind to make it work out. The boots? Eh....any ideas you would suggest? I found the straps for the toppers no problem. The pouches I'm working on as well. The gloves? Any links would be nice. I found some brown motorcycle gloves that are pretty close. But I'm always open to new ideas.
The helmet- I'm pretty clueless on this one. I downloaded the pep file and I'm going to try that. I've never done pep so....we will try not to burn down the house?
And finally....you guessed it...The shield- Help. Just help. I got nothing.

I'm not afraid to put in the work on a costume but I don't want to overdo it all for no reason. This has to be functional for me as well. I live in the south so over the summer wearing this thing is going to be...well...difficult to say the least. Anyway, any and ALL help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to see this whole thing come together. I'm a patriotic cosplayer it seems. I've done Abraham Lincoln (Vampire Hunter of course) and then Connor Kenway from Assassins Creed 3 and now Cap. So please everyone...let me know what steps to take. I'm totally listening to the experts here.

Hey there. You've picked a great costume to make, so let's see what I can help with.
First off, don't go with leather-hot and uncomfortable. Go with a cotton/denim/etc-there are some good companies in the pacific rim that make a good repro, but you'll need to see what is available. They are fairly inexpensive, so be prepared to do some work.
Spend some time searching this forum, this cossy has been made a million times, you will find lots of links to various parts. There is a really good one for the belt/holster rig.
Boots-same thing, there are some good links here, but unfortunately, you are gonna have to look-use the search engine, everything you want is here.
Shield-same thing-some shields are for sale in the junkyard, but some of us are making them with Flexible flyers or old satellite dishes.
Helmet-hunt down a guy named Roblenzz, or another named BigGeek-these guys make beautiful helmets.
Sorry I can't narrow down the search, but I'm on my tablet, and it only lets me do so much. That being said, I have pretty-much handed you all the links you need to put together a kick-ass TFA outfit.

There are a variety of great build threads on this forum for both the costume and the shield ranging from scratch builds to upgrading existing costumes and shields. What is your budget going to be like?
Most of my experience has to do with the shield and these are probably the three best existing shield build threads that represent the 3 most preferred avenues:
Saucer Sled Shield
Airsoft Shield
Spun Aluminum Shield

Looch has mentioned some of the best guys to produce helmets.

Hey everyone. Thank you for replying. I appreciate the help.
Just to let you know I've made the belt and holster and I'm actually making the helmet/mask myself right now. Thought I'd give it a try. I'll have a build thread soon. I think it's turning out pretty good so far. But of course one wrong turn could spell disaster. Let me share where I'm at right now and see if you guys and gals can point me in the right direction.
The suit- this is the one I'm needing the most help with. Looch you said something about some places to purchase this. Any links you could DM me? I just want to know which ones I can trust. I found one on eBay for $250 and it's ok but I've honestly found that all of them (including the ones online) seem to all share the exact same picture. So any links or suggestions would be nice. I'd like to have this started soon because I know I'm going to have to do a lot of mods to it. Which is totally fine. I usually like to make everything myself I just don't have time to do this from scratch.
Shield- I've got some leads on the shield and am actually working with a piece of aluminum that may work out. Maybe not. We will see. Let's just say that if I can get a hit water heater overflow pan and a Christmas tree stand to come together it will definitely be an interesting build thread.
Boots and gloves- still trying to make this work out. So hard to see the quality without it being in person. Again I can mod no problem. Hell I'm the king of modification. I love taking something and making it into something else.
And after that I think I have the rest done (once I get a new airsoft gun seeing as the one I just purchased is the wrong size and too big for the WWII holster I have).
Thanks for the kind words and the warm welcome here guys. I appreciate all the help and once I get the suit I'm sure I'll be back on here to talk with you guys about appropriate mods to it. Thank you all.

Looch is talking about the one from CosPlaySky. Their suit if ok if you delete all the stuff you don't need or is inaccurate. I used the Wolverine brand brown combat style boots will custom toppers and they work great for a budget build. If you have the skills to make the belt the boot topper are pretty easy. Adding a cuff tp standard leather gloves is pretty easy too. Just get some oil leather dye to tie them together and it looks pretty seamless. You can check out my build and see some details of these mods and ideas.

Good Luck!

Ok....that helps out some. I was actually looking at the Wolverine boots too. I can make the boot toppers no problems. I've worked with leather before so I'm familiar. I had a ton of work to do when I made the Connor Kenway costume so I'm pretty familiar with it.

As far as CosPlaySky goes I will take a look at them. This is the one that I found on eBay.

Of course just looking for the base of the suit and go from there. Like I said I have the belt and the holster. Any thoughts on this so far as a base suit? I'm pretty upset though that they want so much for it and it's STILL going to need a bit of work. No one on here makes these do they? Anyone know? I don't mind spending some cash for it but I would really like to know it's going to be more quality than guess work when the box is opened.

You can get the base suit cheaper on the CosPlaySky website if you have lem leave off the parts you are planning on replacing. No belt, stars, back straps, helmet holster and ammo strap. Plan on having to take it in to fit tighter. Don't buy through eBay, use their direct website. No reason to pay for what you are not going to use.

Thank you very much. I'll see what that say. I really appreciate all the info. Is there a thread for making the stars or a template on here?

I'm working on a TFA build right now myself and I made a chest star using card stock with a thin layer of resin poured over it. I'm planning to try this for the shoulder stars next. So we'll see what happens...

Sounds great. Let me know how that goes. I'm thinking of just seeing what I can do with some aluminum cut and glued. May not work but I have a bunch of it laying around so I have be able to work with it.
