Highlander remake

ive actually been a fly on the wall with the new film and have almost daily contact with DP dealing with licensed goods.. from what they are trying to do it seems they are finally taking heed with what fans have to say, they are adding back stories to ramirez and the Kurgan, very similar to the comics that were published.

i think alot of people are selling ryan short on his abilities... i think they can achive the level of emotions that Connors position calls for.

Look, I actually think Ryan Reynolds can probably act a lot better than we've seen. Some of the stuff in Green Lantern hinted at that, although I think he was screwed by bad editing and an otherwise weak story. (Personally, I think he made a GREAT Hal Jordan -- a good blend of bravado masking deep pain, which is not as easy to pull off as it might seem.) I mean, remember when everyone said Ben Affleck was a crappy actor? Go watch The Town and then tell me if that still holds true (hint: it doesn't). Actors get stuck in bad gigs sometimes, and they do what they can and cash their checks. So, yeah, I suspect Reynolds actually has a far deeper well of talent than we've seen, thanks to some poor decisions and maybe an agent who's advising him to take high paying gigs rather than stuff that shows off his acting chops.

But that said, Reynolds as Connor just seems...off. Not that Christopher Lambert was all that great as a Scot, but I have a hard time imagining Reynolds actually pulling off a decent burr. I'd love to be surprised, but it just seems like "box office" casting, rather than finding someone who's right for the part. Assuming this doesn't die during development, I hope I'm proved wrong, though.

I liked Reynolds in Smokin' Aces, and he was decent in Safe House, and I've seen him in a comedy that was funny. Highlander is one of my favorite films, mostly because of the Kurgan and Clancy Brown though. I thought he was excellent in the film. It will be interesting to see how the remake is cast.

I 1st saw Highlander in the theater on opening night at the age of 13, it's one of my favorite movies from that era. I have avoided all the sequals, the trailers were enough to make me thow-up in my mouth a little, and never seen the TV show. I re-watched it a few weeks ago and thought it held up really well. Personally I prefer the european cut but I haven't acquired it yet. :) I give it a bit of slack on effects because of tech limitations at the time but it dosen't need much slack anyway. This movie is a standalone fim, it was never written to have "sequals". That being said, I wouldn't mind a well done re-make, but it will be a "re-boot" to start a "franchise" so it will likely be heavily re-written to allow for all the expansion material. It would be cool if they remade this staying true to the original story, but i seriously doubt they will.

The sequels were abysmally horribly bad bad bad.

The TV series started out pretty good, but then turned formulaic and soap-opera-y. I stopped watching it.

The European cut is the one that includes the Nazi scene, yes . . . ?

Yes thats the one :thumbsup I liked seeing how he met Racheal, and why she was "such a romantic" it also has some extended fight scenes it it that were thought to be too "fantastical" for american audiences! :facepalm:lol

When the sequal was anounced I had high hopes that it was a prequal, but it turns out this guy was right all along :lol

I think this movie could benefit from a remake, but the remakes of two other childhood favorites of mine Rollerball and Clash of the Titans didn't turn out so well to say the least.

If I had to cast Conner I would cast Ewan Mcgregor in the role.

I watched them all recently one after the other.

First one was great (Was great in 1986 and still great now - QUEEN's Music is STILL frickin' AWESOME!) - Pity the movie bombed in the US. Gained a cult following but unfortunately made a loss on investment.

Then I watched the second one...I'm sure Sean Connery did it for the paycheck as it didn't make sense. Planet Zeist? WTF? This movie also bombed at the box office losing USD$19M to the French / Argentine investors (rumoured from ex-Nazi's, who also coincidentally believed their race would live a thousand years, money laundering all that Nazi gold through a foreign investment - pity their investment didn't last more than a year). They should have known better than to cast Michael Ironside in this movie - He's the king of "jump the shark" type TV shows and should have been a bad omen to all (remember Seaquest?)

Then they made a third one - Highlander - The Sorceror. Now you'd think that after losing all that money in the first and second movies they STILL went and made a third one. I think I did housework whilst casually looking at the screen every now and then whilst this played at my place. This one lost USD$14M...I guess they're losing less money.

Now, how a movie franchise that' continually losing money gets a third sequel is beyond all logic. Yes, Highlander - Endgame. It lost USD$10M this time. Wow, if they keep on making more they'll eventually break even. I have to admit, this one was pretty unwatchable. I had force myself to watch this and I remember my butt wriggling uncomfortably on my lounge in a similar fashion to when a dentist starts drilling on your tooth.

And they went and made a 5th Highlander - The Source. About Connor MacLeod's mate. After three dreadful sequels, do we really care anymore?

And now a re-boot with Ryan with the abs Reynolds? This is going to blow more than a Playmate at Hugh Hefners.

Really - let it die....

Reynolds might have been a bad choice. The remake itself is a worse choice. I recognize the remote possibility that it could be done well, but I'm not anywhere near optimistic about it.

If they HAVE to reboot this I am glad Ryan Reynolds is out. Personally I think they should get Thomas Jane or Aaron Eckhart signed up. Every time I see those guys I think they look related to Christopher Lambert.

I just saw The Mist and thought the same thing about Thomas Jane :thumbsup. On the reboot :thumbsdown :lol
