Hogwarts Portraits & Tapestries

Hey guys,

I'm on the hunt for interesting (semi-HD) portraits like the ones that hang in the Hogwarts portrait room. I've seen a few Renaissance type paintings on the Googles, but nothing that screamed Harry Potter to me.

ALSO

I'm searching for an economically sane resource for the 'Lady and the Unicorn' Tapestries that line the Gryffindor Common Room.

I'm just searching for either an HD scan of this, or somewhere that sells large fabric prints of this, but on an inexpensive fabric.

Like this:

Cheers!

UPDATE !!!!!!!------------------------------------------------------------------

So first off apparently the tapestries have been restored so high quality scans or pictures of the Lady/Unicorn Tapestries are now online! I grabbed a few and threw them into this photobucket album: Tapestries Photos by mooniteman | Photobucket -Now if anyone has any ideas of doing some large prints onto fabric or some large scale gel transfers I'm all ears!

2nd: Who out there can get us some scans of the "Portraits of Hogwarts" book here: HARRY POTTER $1000 FROM PAGE TO SCREEN BOX SET | Limited Edition Collectibles (Thanks @dstud93 for posting this!)

3rd: Here are the portraits I've made thus far using a laser printer & gel transfer onto canvas. None of these are my original art - the Hook painting I have more info on in another thread as well.

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Most of the portraits are just edited historic portraits. Many of the originals are linked to & can be seen on the Harry Potter wiki. I.E; here, here, and here.

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Awesome - thanks - that makes a lot of sense!

Now what about that damn tapestry?

Does anyone have a source for a scan of it or anything?

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Quite accidentally, last night I have been looking for the reference for the Gryffindor common room's tapestry, and I was so happy that I found out what it was (don't know why I didn't have the idea to look it up on the RPF first :rolleyes).
I haven't found an affordable source, yet, but I'd like to share what I have found out so far:
The picture that you have posted is only one of an existing series of six medieval tapestries, called "Mon seul désir". The other five motifs represent the five senses.
I have looked at several pics from the London Harry Potter Studio Tour, and these are the positions of the different motifs:

I am not sure about wall 4+5, there are references that show tapestry no. 4 on wall no. 4 and wall no. 5.
Tapestry no. 6 is called "The Unicorn in Captivity", a medieval tapestry that is located in a Scottish castle today. In the common room, it seems to function as a kind of curtain at the room entrance.

My thought is, if I could find a place that would print them on fabric, I would choose to print them a bit smaller, since the originals are about 3,5m high (AFAIR).

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

This is great reference! I found the later video games are a super useful resource for these - I'm not sure they are totally accurate, but they look extremely close.

I don't really need all the tapestries, but I can't find any affordable recreations or scans of the originals anywhere!

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

I found pics of most of the tapestries in quite a good resolution, but watermarked, because it was on a photographer's website. If I attempted a reproduction for my living-room, I think I would clean any pictures with Photoshop or the kind, anyway.
I have found a web shop where you can have fabric printed, for the purpose of clothings bedclothes, or decoration (curtains, seat covers...).
One would have to make each tapestry out of several panels, but a price of around €200,- for one ca. 2m x 2,8m motif would be possible. Of course, it would be a printed cotton instead of a carpet, but I imagine that it would look good on your own Gryffindor Common Room walls! :)

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

You can get replicas of the main tapestry with the blue tent & french writing on ebay, in varying sizes and usually quite cheap. One of the larger ones is at most £50ish I think. :)

Yes, but it is still rather small. If you want to decorate a whole wall with it, you'll have to have it printed on fabric. I'm in Germany, so I looked for a German online shop that does it. If you send them a high resolution file, you could get a tapestry 2.8m x 2m (consisting of two pieces) for around €100.- if I'm reading their website correctly.

You have fun with that. :thumbsup

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

It might be worthwhile checking Etsy and Deviantart. It could be that some talented fans have done digital paintings to recreate ones used in the movies, in which case you could get them printed on canvas at... any one of the zillion places that print on canvas.

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Hey Folks, it's been some time since the last post in this thread, and I wondered if anyone has made themselves a Gryffindor Common Room tapestry.
If so, I'd very much like to see some pictures of the decorated room, of course! :)

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Now I just came across the Harry Potter Page to Screen The Complete Filmmaking Journey Deluxe edition and I noticed that it contains one little book which is just about all the paintings in Hogwarts! How cool is that???

I would like to have some high resolution pics of those paintings so I could get them painted and framed for my house. You can get paintings copied in China. I've done it before and it's incredibile how well they paint and copy them!

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

Oh and also check out the video at the bottom. It shows you two pages of the inside of the book!

I WANT IT!!!!

But that collection is very expensive. 400 GBP (Something like 300 $?)

Re: Potter Portraits & Gryffindor Tapestries

As a bibliophile, I find this interesting, too... If you really want to buy the box, check Amazon every day to see if the prices changes. I did that with Star Wars: The Blueprints and got it for €276 ( I missed it at €206). I think, with 3000 copies, the Harry Potter Book Box will stay available for some time. :)
Well, tell me if you have some paintings copied, I'd like to see that! :)
