If you were going to replicate this...

heres an alternate angle (and an insert of the brand itself):

Not the greatest picture, but still :)

Definatley looks the closest so far; I wonder if theres something similar with more/thinner leafey sections (dont know how else to describe it.)

I know exactly what you mean. If it weren't for those darn "leafy" things, it'd be a slam dunk. ;) The one I linked I think is too small though. I still have some leads onit. I'm fairly confident we can find something pretty darn close.

Very interesting how the "P" is painted orange. I noted that when I was there shooting pics too. In the Visual Guide, its painted black, so all the normal questions arise (two props? painted after production for display purposes? VG shot taken before filming and the red the actual "effect"). The paint seems to have an allmost luminescent quality to it in person, and I woonder if it WAS painted this way on set to reflect the stage lights...?

Or what would you use? The sphere is about the size of a baseball...

That prop has American-Derosa written all over it.... top to bottom: Sphere with captive flange, brass canopy cover, spindle or column, and finial adapter or shade extentions/risers at the base.. definitely lamp parts.

Thats my 2 cents....

Cool -- very cool. What is American-Derosa?

I saw the actual prop at the studios and it is indeed a part to a lamp. Which part? I don't know. :p

Kona Lighting in Stanton is where Disney gets a lot of their greeblies.

Next time I'm around stanton, I'll try to stop by kona lighting, I punched in the directions and it's right next to Anahiem, and about 60 miles from me.

Looks like an andiron to me.. and that would make sense if it was stuck in a fire (I haven't seen the movie yet)
Do an image search for andirons or (federal , ball top andirons) and you'll see what I mean...

The shaft portion looks very much like a lamp, but I can't really see how the sphere would work into a lamp...

I'm guessing a hybrid of a lamp part and a curtain rod finial...? Thoughts...?

Except that the join between the two seems to be a match made in heaven...

In the end, it still could have been custom sculpted...

75% of it is a wall lamp similar to this one, which has been hanging on a wall in my father-in-laws house for 30+ years.

I dont think its from a sphere persay, but a cut down 1 piece ball or half a 2-piece flanged or threaded ball.

I havent used this company, but hollow spun or cast brass ball would be a good way to search for if this is not what you are looking for ~ Also, some flagpoles use brass ball tops in the 4-5" range. Best of luck.

... at the bottom is 1 piece brass spun balls in various sizes in the range.

Funny -- I knew I'd seen the fluted shaft part around my house. Part of a prop spear I have in my own collection has a similar part.
