Illusive Yoda cracking

Not to hijack but as I posses an IC Jabba with no sings of deterioration yet, I'd like to know more about what I can (or should) do for keeping it at best condition.
Is this silicon spray you mentioned a special one or will any do?

I still have my IC Yoda in its original box and plastic bag, I haven´t checked on it for about two years I thing, stashed away in the cellar. The only concern I have at the moment is the temperature being around 21-23° C, I hope that didn´t do too much damage. I am thinking of putting it into a clear acrylic display (that I still need to buy), so any info on how to keep the latex in good condition is appreciated.

So what is the main cause of the latex cracking ? UV radiation i.e. exposure to sunlight ? Or is it too much heat or the air being too dry ?

Michael

Bumpo !

Frightzone, did you solve that pic problem ?

And any info on what is worse, sun light or heat ?

Michael

Michael, give me your email addy & I'l send you the pics of mine. Actually, from my experience both sunlight & heat are enemies of latex. The IC Yoda was in my office. What I plan to do is just replace the latex feet, hands, & head with resin castings. I have the Pepsi Yoda in my prop room & that one is made out of rubber & it should last 4-ever. You can try & fill any cracks on your IC Yoda with some latex & mix-up some paint to blend it in. Hope that helps.

I'm reading where some are having slight cracking on the illusive concepts Yoda figure. Well after taking mine out of the box it had been stored in for years I was sick to discover it not only cracked in places, but whole pieces of the latex have come off.

Several posts talk about Wampa, but I don't see how to reach him. Don't seem to be able to find a contact for Illusive either.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm in Maryland

Both my Yoda and Jabba are in good shape and I want to keep them that way.

Anything else other than the Baby Oil?

What about 303 protectant? It's a UV protectant and the only thing I will use on a car dashboard.

Thanks

Mine looks like the day I got it.

All I do is keep it out of the direct sunlight and keep him nice and cool.

No way in hell would I use baby-oil

I hate to say it but the cost to salvage him won'tbe worth it.
I grieve for your loss.
I've wamted one for so long and I almost pulled the trigger and bought one about 10 years ago when they were going for 800.00...then the reports of cracking started coming in. Needless to say, I passed. I ended up buying a VERY accurate resin and cloth model. Sturdy and worry-free.

What do you use baby oil for???? I hope that's a joke LOL

Baby oil would ROT latex. It might feel like it softens it up at first but any oil deteriorates latex.

Baby oil might cause more harm than good long term because it is petroleum based, however I have used olive oil for the soft rubber surrounds on the cones on my speakers. They appeared to be turning white and I was worried they would break down and split, so used the olive oil applied with a soft cloth. That was back in 2004 and they have not cracked or split and I use them almost every day.
