"Insignia white" paint-Ok for a base color for M. Falcon model?

This is AS-20 over a gray primer:

I went with AS-20 as the main base for my Fine Molds 1/72 Falcon. I sprayed it over a light coat of AS-16 which I first tried, but found too dark, which was sprayed over Black Primer. In the end it may or may not have had any significant impact on shifting the AS-20 color a bit more "grey", but figured I should mention it

AS-20 by itself I don't think is quite "warm/tan" enough to get a perfect match for the studio model in person if you are really intent on color matching.

But for what I wanted, it worked out perfectly. The second picture showing how it looks whiter in full light vs greyer in indirect light

However, I was going more to match the box art from the old MPC Falcon (both the 5 ft from the original and the 32" from the ROTJ repacking), They both looks a bit "greyer" than what most people go for, but I preferred that to the "whiter/creamier" look

Granted, the light is much brighter in the first image but the tone of the Reefer White is slightly warmer in the second pic and that's what I really want you to see. You can build a perfectly respectable model using AS-20, but the Archive-X is a more accurate color.

I just used plain white from Tamiya, I think.... but the important thing is to stain your white color to match the color of the model as YOU see it in the movie. I don't think it was ever grey, or any version of grey. Just plain white with a butt load of streaks and stains.

The 5fter was painted Krylon Platinum Grey. The ESB Falcon was painted some combination of Floquil Reefer White and Grime.

I went with tamiya insignia white for my PG Falcon, and for my 1/144 Fine Molds, an eyeballed 50/50 mix of tamiya Deck Tan and White

I've searched the RPF and have seen the various threads about the base color of the Falcon being a mix of colors, but not having an airbrush setup, I'm looking for a basic off white or something that is close enough in a model paint spray can. I'm working on a Fine Molds 1/144 Falcon kit and have dremeled the damage to the hull and various other locations, and am working on mods so I can possibly light the kit. I'll be dirtying it up, but need to find the paint so I can get going on the weathering. Any ideas on a rattle can color that would work the best for the ol' Falcon color?

I used Tamiya Insignia White, then washes and pastels, etc. You can see my Falcon here if interested. Lighting also makes a big difference. If you look at actual filming miniature references, the Falcon is very pale and closer to white. On film though, it appears warmer. Though again, that could also be the lighting conditions the filming miniature was photographed under.

As I don't want to use the rattle can and don't like decanting - has anyone experience with MRP Insignia White?

;) I know!
I was referring to the tone. Does MRP Insignia White match the Falcon's base color? Ballpark with BB, streaks and weathering?

AS20 over Tamiya Fine White Primer because I didn't want to decant or break out the airbrush for this "quick build". Photos in daylight through sliding glass door with model on kitchen table.

That's what I use. Works great. In fact, I've used that as my base for the DeAgo Falcon, Bandai 1/48 X-Wing, 1/72 Y-Wing and 1/72 B-Wing.

I have a question regarding this too. In preparation for my ROS Falcon, I bought a can of Tamiya TS-7 Racing White, as I wanted a hint of yellow colour, but just a Tan spray can looked too strong. It will go over MrSurfacer Grey Primer.

Hearing that most here go for Insignia White, would you recommend against TS-7 racing white?

At 1/144 the AS20 is a little dark for my tastes. My tastes. I plan on mixing a little white with gloss coat for the decals later and repost. Still experimenting and making my own way.

I used AS-20 over an automotive grey primer followed by a very thinned down sepia (oil) wash , before the layers of weathering were added on my Deago mashup MF.
As others have noted ‘lighting conditions’ really do play a significant role. Prior to taking some pics of it outdoors ( in sunlight ) - quite a surprise !

, I always saw it as a warmish grey under indoor lighting during construction.

Is the mixing of the white and gloss to help tone down the colour of the decals? I never thought of that before, but then right now I don’t have my airbrush (left in in London after moving to Japan), so I don’t think I can do that for my 1/144 build. Perhaps later on my 1/72 Fine Molds.

The AS20 has a semi-gloss finish. I wanted to make this a quick build and decided to use the decals and wanted a glossier finish to help them lay down and conform. So I figured while I'm doing a light gloss coat I could add a little white, just enough to make the mix look "cloudy" but still transparent to see if I could knock back the warmth of the AS20 a bit. Have no idea how it will turn out, just playing around.

At the scale of 1/144 it seems too dark "for me" 75% of the time. Then some times during the day, I have it sitting on the dining room table now, it's perfectly screen white/gray. Just like what gedmac66 said. You know how that goes.
