Iron Man Mark I Chest Piece?

I couldn't even sit through my first viewing of the movie before I was already tapping my wife on the shoulder and telling her I was SO building a Tony Stark costume with the chest piece glowing under my muscle shirt! That thing rocks!

It would be great if we could find the parts to make one of these... I havent even seen the movie yet and I want one! :)

I agree. I think it is not a real stator (I´ve never seen them in plastic), the coils are easy to make...
The center piece looks like a filter...
Let´s start the investigation.

Regards.

My husband wants one of these real bad as a costume piece to wear under a t-shirt but still have the glow visible. I have been experimenting with EL tape, the hard part has been making something thin enough to wear under a shirt without it protruding too much from the chest.
Since it will be covered with a shirt, I haven't been too concerned with exactness as far as the prop goes.

I'm reminded of those restaurant flashing light/vibrating REMOTES they give you so you can walk around until your name comes up on their waiting list. Makes me wonder if you could take the guts from one of those and use it towards a replica of the Iron Man chest piece.

Just thinking outloud...

Found this:

I'm not sure it's a commercial product. It doesn't have as many copper bundles as Tony's one.

Awesome find.

I was thinking it might be a turbo pump:

but you are so right about the magnetic bearing.

It may not be that bad....or am I just kidding myself?:lol The center piece looks a bit like a faucet screen attached to a heating element of some kind. The main housing just screamed "bearing" to me so a quick search turned up this:

These are magnetic bearings. What do you guys think?

How about one of those LED tap lights? You know, those lights you push on to make turn on? I bet someone could modify one of those to look decent enough for under a t-shirt...

i would imagine that is was custome made for the film.

someone should contact ricksprops on here, he could make that no problem

How did I get roped into this? Yes that would be cool to make. I actually know the guy who drew the original versions of this chest piece. It would be very tricky to build one of these right now and not get killed by the production. Especially if you make them to sell. I guess you could make pieces that one could put one together yourself , like kit version. Not a complete kit so that you must do the work and not be killed.

I'll ask my friend If he'd be willing to share some specs. Sizes ect.

Speaking of drawing the original specs, why they don't come out with an "Art of" or "Making of" book of this movie, I'll never know!

Being that is was a prominent piece in the fiilm, I would be surprised if a licensed version wasn't in the works. Either way, that was my first thought when I saw it... "I've gotta have that!"

That's the info I'd be most interested in... the size. :D This is such an awesome piece, I'd love to make one. I'm trying to scale it with the photos I've found of it, but it's hard to ballpark. :(

sorry rick.

I saw the pics and immediatly thought of you. being the best in the business an all.

This is an exciting thread. The thought of having a chest piece for costuming is too cool. Thanks for looking into the specs for this, Rick.

Ditto, thanks! Although I'm more interested in the display piece than the wearable one.

It'd be neat to get a kit that you put together....your own little Tony Stark moment.

LOL... Too true.

Plus, a kit would be sooo easy to customize (with your own name).
