Jaffa Staff detail pics?

HOLY CRAP!!! were did you get that and how can I get my hands on one!?!?!?

Well, I keep telling everyone I own the only working one from the movie.

Someone told me they didnt believe me.

I took my leaves (I call the football part "leaves" ) off and molded two of them. The mechanism is exactly like whats in the gun.

The movie one was pnuematic. My sister, was on set as a fx gofer. She is even in the Credits. (Amanda Cerney, Special Effects Office Coordinator)

She told me that they had some idiot with a Co2 tank run up and fill it in between takes In Yuma.

According to Mandy There were two made. One was broken during filming, and never worked again. Prop Store owns that one. He bought it off ebay, it had been in a Casino screwed to a wall in a CLEOPATRA exhibit.

The one I own was also broken. The part of the shaft between the leaves and the first knuckle is mostly bondo. I do own the detail sheet that was used, to cover the metal.

This thread has me excited to get back to a project I have long since shelved when I was recalled to Iraq.

:eek

You did nail getting the mechanism reproduced, nice!

Thanks for posting the pics. I'm pretty sure judging by the pics I'm using the right 6061 rod/tubing sizes... 3/4 rod for the inner slider and for the outer tube 1-1/4 x 1/4 inch wall. With my craptastic little Smithy 3-in-1, I just can't get the pin holes to not wonder... the machine's just not rigid enough and they end up wondering into the center which causes the 3/4 rod to be blocked/bind or wonders & buggers out the outside of the tube.

Keep us informed on your progress. Looks like there's a enough interest even if it is as a kit.

Yeah the machining was a small fortune. Its really simple in design, but its intricate in construction.
I could not help but wonder WHY everything was so thick.
But, when you operate it, suddenly it makes sense. There is alot of stress on the arms that hold the leaves. To keep it from sagging or bending..the housing needs to be thick.

No problem cklinejr, I actually did get it off ebay a while ago. Think it was for around the 100 or so mark, it was on an hour i think and i snagged it :p

Savage pics BrundleFly thanks for sharing them, a great piece of Stargate and movie history right there. I keep hoping a run of them will pop up....ah well I can dream can't I? :p

Sure if there is no run being done here, anyone interested should sign up to jaffalegions.com forum and post in the thread there. Someone is meant to be working on one and i'm sure more encouragement could always be useful. Like most here I am dying to get my hands on one :)

They are ALOT of work.

Takes too much time to do one cost effectively. Everyone has Champagne taste on a beer budget.

I wouldn't assume what someone's budget is....

I personally don't drink beer. ;)

hahahh

My experience has made me jaded.
But I agree...Ill leave it to the market.
Ill do 7 electric working guns and dump 4 of them on ebay.

ha very true! But sure as the old saying goes you get what you pay for. If it meant saving for one that was a bit pricey then so be it. If it was a working one I would imagine that it would be stretching the budget a hell of alot but hey these things have to be done :p

Supposedly the chap on the other form would be doing it for a decent price, but like you said for the time put in it would not be cost effective, unless of course there was a big group interested.

BrundelFly If you are genuinely going to do 7 of them then I would be interested in hearing more here on in PM if thats okay? If not its grand. Im sure there are a few more people genuinely interested aswell.

Yea, Keep those of us interested informed. :thumbsup

I'ed probably pass up robstyle's model 47a run for this.... I'm a bigger stargate nut

Some years back, I was taken for $400 by someone who started a run but never finished them. It's always been a sore point for this prop for me, but I'm over it now. I'd love to see this costume finally finished by adding the staff weapon to it.

OK, so I was "venting" by posting this here in this thread. The person that I considered who took me for the case and never delivered the goods saw my post and has refunded my $400.

Apparently, after this person stopped the run, he tried to contact everyone on his list but my email wasn't working at the time and we lost contact.

Thanks to the RPF, this person PM'd me and we have now gotten back in touch. I'm not going to mention the person by name (unless he wants me to), but I do want to say "thank you" out in public for coming forward and making good on the refund after all these years.

You know who you are and I want to thank you for contacting me and making good on this deal.

Ladies and gentlemen, yet another reason why I love the RPF.

Well.

Im the idiot.

I let a project lag for way too long, and it got buried in life.

The email account I had no longer exists, and I could not remember WHO it was, and when I saw Matts thread posting, I asked him, "

"HEY!! YOU TALKING ABOUT ME???"

Indeed he was, and he and I working it out.

Ill keep the details between he and I.

Everyone is human and not perfect. Its not what we DO wrong in life, its what we do to correct it, and what we learn from it.

I feel very humbled. However, Im working it out with Matt.
How he has handed this is a tribute to his good character, and I hope I can repair mine by correcting this event as quickly as possible.

I had no idea Frank was BrundelFly until he PM'd me.

It says a lot that he came to me over this after all this time and say "hey, that was my run. I still owe you money." He could have easily skimmed over this and never said a thing.

Thank you, Frank, for being a big enough man to do the right thing.
