Jet Powered GeeBee Racer

How dieselpunk. I love it. Wish I could master those kinds of made up details. Looking forward to more.

Practice: been doing it for a looong time (and, TBH, I wasn't sure I could still do it)- the trick is not just knowing where to start, it's knowing where to stop!

Meanwhile, despite not intending to do so, it now looks like this will be an illuminated model:

A couple of white LEDs and a button battery so far, but this means I can wire in a battery pack, and add engine lights and navigation- oh well..!

I'm a big fan of unintended complications that make a model even cooler than originally planned. Looks great!

Thanks! Simple is best! ;)

It was all going along swimmingly, and I had just disassembled it to give it all a nice coat of grey primer, when I decided to make a couple of access holes inside to body to make assembling it a bit easier, when the dremel 'caught' and vibrated the poor thing so much, this happened:

Luckily, very clean breaks, so just a spot of glue and some filler, a little sanding and she was all back together and looking as good as ever:

Also managed to get some paint on the figure:

Next comes the fun bit, the final colours! Traditionally, GeeBee racers seem to be white and red, but I quite fancy black and yellow...

Wow,wow,wow.
This will be your another masterpiece.
It is definitely the work of Doctor.
No one can build the model with this taste.
And I really love that taste!!
I feel like I was hit by the back of my head.
You are the one big star that I should look for.

Back in the workshop, masked and painted the black, used Frisket masking film and my trusty airbrush:

With some trepidation, peeled the masking off after the paint was dry...

...and thankfully, not bad!

It's a slightly fragile acrylic black, over the hard car-paint yellow, so easy to knock back when weathering.

And just for fun, all in one piece:

Might get the electronics all sorted tomorrow!

Unfortunately, I got the wrong (male to male) connectors for the wiring, so that's taken a bit of a back seat, I'm also waiting on some ultra bright yellow LEDs for the engine effect, but I've still been busy with other parts of the build: a display base, and some decals:

A sandwich of three pieces of 9mm MDF, with routed edges, glued and screwed together, sealed and sanded before a faux marble effect paint finish:

And today, I've been riveting:

A friend said to me last week, "I can't wait to see what it looks like with the rivets on it!", which gave me pause, as it was a bit late for that- but he did help remind me that you can get rivets in decal form, so, as well as generating my own decals for the markings, I also drew a series of rivets and printed them out- I think they work remarkably well!
