Joaquin Phoenix "Joker" Costume Thread

Joined up just to answer the most recent post and contribute a bit of my findings, hoping to keep this thread alive!

You won't be able to find a branded source for Arthur's hoodie since almost everything was custom made and then made to look worn in, because they needed several of the same item for Joaquin and his stunt doubles. Only some items were true vintage (and had no potential action scenes).
Here is an interview with Mark Bridges where he mentions that aspect of the costumes. Your best bet is to wait a bit until you can find a maker with a confirmed photo of their product.

I've been working on a sort of photo-diary of creating my own custom Joker suit (I'm a professional tailor) if people are interested in works-in-progress.

Thank you for this information!

I did read something similar on the outfits, but not that most things were custom.

I read that they found a few “vintage items at thrift shops”, but that’s about it.

But that would make sense that they would have to custom make everything, in order to have multiple pieces, unless they were buying from a store that sold multiple pieces.

Yes, I agree that we should be wary of buying from places unless they have photos… I have actually written into three different websites that claim they were selling replica pieces… And I asked about specific details and to confirm that they were indeed replica from the movie… No response…

I am however purchasing pieces from Magnoli Clothiers, I definitely trust that they know what they are doing to custom make pieces and their eye for detail!

If you have a website or anything, I would definitely be interested in seeing what you have as well!

I’m the kind of person that’s extremely OCD and picky about the outfits when I dress up as a movie character…

I pretty much have to be in the exact outfit, otherwise I won’t feel right

So from what I’ve gathered there’s yet to be an accurate suit. The Magnoli shirt doesn’t look matte enough, their vest is missing the piping along the edges too. From a design standpoint I think StudioSuits has the best one so far but the fabric is wrong. Even then I (and I don’t have a good angle of Magnoli) I don’t think any suit has the lips at the end of the jacket that you can see from the screen used suit.
Whatever fabric it is - It’s thick. I’m going to see if StudioSuits can do theirs in the “Naples red” they offer. Tweed is still wrong I’m sure, but the suit will have a more accurate color than their super dark fabric.
BaronBoutique also looks great but it’s also too dark and super expensive. I know they’ll do it in a different fabric though so it may end up being the definitive route.

By "piping" on the vest, do you mean the 1/4" stitching along the edge? Our vest does have that. And what do you mean by "lips" at the end of the jacket? If there are any details missing from our suit, let us know and we can certainly update our patterns accordingly!

Yup! I can’t see it in any photos of your vest which is why I brought it up, so I apologize if yours does indeed have it. Overall I think your suit should be much thicker but I also understand it’s a budget option, not a fully custom suit.
As for the “lips” I mentioned, I don’t know how to describe it but it doesn’t look like it goes along the whole jackets edge - just the bottom curve. I tried to see it on your suit but I haven’t spotted it.
It could be very likely that it’s just the normal stitching of the jacket at a weird angle.

Here's a photo from a museum display of our suit showing both these points:

Phenomenal!! Personally, I’d add a clearer shot to the website then since this looks a lot better and highlights the only missing points I thought it had. Would just using a thicker fabric take it up to 750?
Also is this your shirt ? I was worried it was shiny from the listing photos and not matte.
