Lucasfilm Archives video tour

Hi Guys
I just found this thread and it brought back a lot of memories of my time at Lucas Film
One time I was in the Archives I found the cardboard prototype of a Tie fighter that had fallen on the floor and someone had stepped on it EEK!
There is not a lot of Indie stuff, mostly Star Wars props but they had things from other film like Tic Tok from RETURN TO OZ
The costumes from many Lucas movies are also stored here, all mixed together
It is nice to see this video again but it was shot before I had access to the Archives .
So here are a few more pic's guys
me and Tic-Tok.jpgIndie props 4.jpghow many R2's would you like.jpgIndie Mummy-C3PO chair.jpg

I was just watching the Blue Ray fly through and man was I pissed when that came out. What a rip off. I have watched it now about 30 times (Really 50 ish) and in many cases frame by frame. I really think this was a rip off and I am wondering what they are saving the Archives for???

What I mean is why not allow it all to be photographed in detail like the costumes book only put to all out there. Just post everything. The stuff is deteriating. It can't be for more money down the road, the man gave away four billion and is worth three billion. I see so much in that horrible fly through we have never seen much of if at all. Slowly it breaks down, gets stolan, etc.

Why not let some uber geek fan like one of us go in there and take ten thousand pics and post for everyone to enjoy.

Didney is leaving us alone.

They release every piece of junk merchandise made so nothing to really protect.

Lucas actualy still ownes the archives.

Let us all see it in detail.

My .5 cents.

Oh, by the way it would be tough but I am willing to volunteer to go and do the photo shoot. :)

Tom you're quite correct, the archives is still George's property (not Disney's) and it might interest you to know that he has DONATED the entire contents of the Archives to the museum he is building in Chicago. The plan is to show off a lot of the props and models there but there is so much of it, that the displays will be rotated periodically.

George continually gets a bad rap but in truth he has done more to donate back to the community and public in general than any other filmmaker has ever done. He financed the entire redevelopment and upliftment of the Letterman Digital Arts centre out of his own pocket including the gardens and infrastructure surrounding the Lucasfilm buildings in addition to the many other social upliftment programs he has donated millions of $$ to.

The museum is also being financed totally out of his own pocket as a gift back to the fans and to the public in general. He is donating $600Million for the building of the museum, and he is donating another $500Million to a trust fund that will finance the museum. In addition to all of that he is donating assets totally nearly $1Billion to the museum by way of the contents of the Archives, his own art collection (which is extensive) and other personally owned items.

In short with the museum alone, George is donating nearly $2 BILLION of his own money so that the fans of the world can also enjoy these items so its not all bad news...

Holy crap that is awesome Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so cool. So I can finally see this stuff. I missed every chance when the tour came anywhere within traveling distance.

This so so cool.

Yeah, George does get some grief and when I read a quote from him about people saying what an awful person he was just because most did not like the prequels and KOTCS. I thought that was pretty obnoxious of people and I felt a moment of sympathy for him. Then I realized he is worth billions and I had to sell most of my collection to support my family so the sympathy did not last long.

This is incredible news. If you see George tell him one fan is very grateful for both the upcoming Archives Museum and Star Wars and Indiana Jones in general.

When is it gonna open???????????

Wow,..wow,...wow. I was so excited I missed the Chicago part. What the hell happened to the Presidio plan or some other Bay Area plan, or something else.????

He is a California boy. California is where he has always been and more importantly where I am. I don't want to got to Chicago. Who does????

Okay you gotta talk to him and get this put back in California.

Take care of that,..will ya Mark.

Hahah.. It unfortunately won't happen Tom but I WILL thank him from you if I see him.

The Presidio plans fell through after a 4 year struggle to get approval from the Presidio Trust. Although he is paying for everything and it would not have cost the city of San Francisco anything (and added to the tourist attraction of the Presidio as well) there were a few people in the trust who said they museum was vulgar and they wouldn't approve of that "Star Wars Monstrosity". George tried everything and was very patient but in the end they won the day and he was chased out. Hs new wife is from Chicago and this is why he went there instead, but that has not been smooth sailing either because again, although he was paying for everything, there was a strong lobby of people who decided that they didn't want it there either and he's been struggling there for nearly 2 years to get it approved. In the end, it appears that he has finally been successful and the museum is going ahead. Its NOT only going to be Star Wars or Indiana Jones because its celebration of all art - mainly illustration, movie props and digital art - including animation

It has only just been finalised so there's a way to go yet but if you're interested in following the progress, the link to the museum is here: http://www.lucasmuseum.org

As I said, because there is so much stuff to put into the building, its been proposed that the displays will be rotated from time to time to ensure that people have the opportunity to see everything - unfortunately, it won't be all in one go though!

All the best
Mark

While I'm glad the Lucas museum is moving ahead, I am sad that it is not being built in it's home. The imbeciles in San Francisco that let the Alliota family and its cronies keep it from happening here should be ashamed of themselves. The movies were written and made here, George is from here, and this is where it should be. Chicago has absolutely no ties to Star Wars or Lucas. The only reason it has moved to Chicago is Lucas's new wife has ties to the politicians there. Los Angeles has more right to a Star Wars museum than Chicago.
Just sad....

Agreed Duncanator. at least it wasn't through lack of trying.

GWL said a while back that the rejection by the Presidio Trust was the biggest disappointment of his life.

WTH??????????????????????? What jerks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I go to the Bay Area a couple times a year. It would have been perfect.

Why,...why,,...why do such idiots (The Presidio guys) get so many opportunity's. Oh,..yeah you want to build something here, pay for it, and make us millions of dollars. Nope,..can't have that.

It's like the brain dead MORON who passed on the Life Size Enterprise-A Hotel in Vegas. They were all set and scrapped it for no reason. My wife, who could not care less about Star Trek, said she would go to Vegas just to go there.

Why didn't he just built the archives/museum on Skywalker Ranch and open it to the public. I am never gonna go to Chicago. I can't afford that. Sure kids I know you have not seen your Grandparents in Colombia and Germany for years but I have to go to Chicago because that's where George Lucas' wife is from.

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to sell my entire collection and get out of this miserable hooby.

The Prequels,

TFA, or should I say ANH remake

Now this.

The only other offering is a friggin cartoon. Really?????

I give up.

Couldn't agree more Tom its a totally squandered opportunity but then San Fran has an appalling habit of treating George badly.

Regarding the Ranch and opening it to the public, I think in fairness, one should remember that its a 'private' residence and not something that is geared to cater for hundreds of people trucking in there every day. Its a gorgeous place but as I am sure you know, the road to the Ranch is not the easiest to travel (especially not with a lot of cars and busses) and access to the place is difficult. While there is (I suppose) a remote possibility that it could be done, there is no way on god's earth the it would be passed by the residents in the area - they would shut it down, no question.

The Ranch (probably my favorite place on the planet) is designed as a sanctuary so between that and the impossible task of getting residents approval to truck in hundreds of visitors, I'm sure you would agree that its not ideal for the Museum to be housed there.

Yeah I was thinking about that, but man this sucks. I am basically never gonna see the original props. We got kids to get raise and get through school, family to see on three different continents. Man this sucks.
