Lucifer TV show <> Lucifer's Coin

I thought this would make a good prop. It's from the "Lucifer" TV show, and shows a GOOD side, and a BAD side.
And yet, both sides say, "Morning Star" (Lucifer's name)

I designed this, and printed in brass from Shapeways. It is roughly the size of a silver dollar, as shown when he holds it
in his hand. The front side says, "In God We Trust" and the back side says, "In God We're Damned".

In the show, it can allow a person (or soul) to go between earth and hell, or hell and earth.

And also Beelzebub, Serpent, Dragon, Lucifer, and Satan on the other side.

The text is way too small to print in Brass. And by going frame by frame, I figured out that they used CGI to do the small text. So the text doesn't actually appear on the prop coin used on set. I've duplicated the actual prop, not the CGI enhanced prop that the viewer sees.

Nice, very nice :)
Although the actual coin you see in the series also very cool and would be awesome if it was printable :)

Figures, that is the problem Hydin is having on his coin

Shapeways has built in tools that tell you instantly (or nearly) if there's a problem with your model for printing.

Imaterialise has printing in high def steel, but no checks to see if it's printable. It is therefore, harder to work with. But some version of the FULL coin
might be printable, but it would be silver steel color. It would need to be gold plated afterwards. High def steel is also pricey.

Looks nice man!

Yea, that text is TINY. Crazy small. Even in shapeways FUD material. Still waiting on the high def black acrylate though. I have high hopes for it :)

The real coin (there's only literally 1 coin) does have the text, and it's a tarnished silver color. No need to gold plate it unless you need it blingy :)

These are some of my screen caps. If that's silver, they really played with the lighting and tarnishing.
The second pentagram picture is straight on, and yet the text is nearly invisible. Looks like a 3D rending issue.
If this was a real coin, the text would be CLEAREST on a straight on shot.

So, maybe this ENTIRE coin is 3D CGI. It's based on a real coin, but this is NOT a real coin we see.

--------- edit -----------

Duh. Real coins don't float in the air. :wacko:lol

He was under a yellow light, that's why it has that weird tinge.

The physical coin is only seen in hand a few times, most notably in the auction episode.

There's literally 1 physical coin that was made for the show, and when it's doing any kind of movement/fx shots, it's a CGI one. A crap CGI one at that, considering the weird art deco noodly armed ***** they went with on that shot. It gets better through the season though.

Some screencaps showing it off a bit : CGI

You would not BELIEVE the research I went into trying to figure out a way to use one of those magnetic floating bases to get this little ******* to spin :lol

Yes, better pictures would be good. They give us close-ups and the pictures they show us aren't accurate ?!? That's abuse. :p

Yea, they kinda skimmed on the CGI in that part. Best guess is just budget reasons. Quick and dirty scene, weird lighting, and just... I guess they decided the part where he's fiddling with it at the bar at the end of the pilot was a longer, more important shot.

I'll pack up the screencaps I have and host em somewhere like zippyshare. I quit taking em around midseason, but you are welcome to the ones I have!

Should have a link up tonight :)

Chris

Shot you a PM with the link to the caps :)

PS - I stand by my description of that particular face of that particular coin :lol

Yep. Noodle arms, a MOE (three stooges) haircut and no face. Not very flattering. :)

It makes the show a bit better if you imagine it going WOO WOO WOO when it spins around. (even though that's curly)
