Mad Max: Fury Road Costume Thread

Just a quick head's up. I just received a pair of Mad Max leather pants from South Beach and apparantly they are now placing zipper closures at the end of the pants legs, similar to the arm closure on the jacket sleeves. This can be remedied simply by cutting the zippers out and restitching if the opening is too wide at the foot but it certainly isn't SA.

Just wanted to let all know that may be thinking about ordering pants from them so you know what to expect. You may also be able to request a straight leg with no zipper but you never know what you'll get with these guys.

I just got my knife and sheath in the mail today, and it doesn't have an eyelet at the end that the zip tie goes through. Is that normal?

Also, is Grizzly Max stuff in a different thread? Very interested to see if anyone has been able to ID that vest, gloves, etc. but the last post I saw was pointing out the metal buckles on that vest.

So, as many of you know, I am making pleather Mad Max jackets just in time for Halloween. I posted photos of the prototype before, but recently was able to grab one of the production jackets and even weather it up. I think they look pretty damn good. so its just a straight cut, above the right elbow, if i was modifying an existing leather jacket?

No. You have to leave a tab, about 2.5 inches long, right along the rear sleeve seam, and then fold it up and rivet it. Spend some time on this thread.

This thread seems to be dying off. I thought with the release of the movie on DVD and Bluray, there would be loads of ref pics and builds galore. Does anyone have anything new to share ?

Well not quite done yet, im new
The SADF battle jacket which was designed in 1983 (before Molle) was revolutionary in its day and was issued to all our troops who was stationed along the border between then South West Africa (Namibia, which is where Fury Road was filled) and Angola and was used in combat. The thought of modifying never crossed our minds but now seems a good idea anyway.

The smell is not so much the bug repellant as more the BO as its flipping hot as hell out there...
I have not read the entire thread yet but want to take note of the various pouches original design - the large pouch on the back was for a field radio although not everyone had them and the 2 large hip pockets were for large 1.5 litre water bottles, but make for a dump pouch's. The front left hand side has a Velcro map pocket behind the 5.56mm mag pouches as part of the main mesh body. and not many people are aware of this.

Mine is still as it was 30 years ago so it would defiantly survive an apocalypse. and even though im not the man himself, I will consider modifying it somewhat . I don't do the costume copy as Im unique I guess. and ride off road in some of the remote places in Africa where the survival can become real. Oh yeah I also got the Bike too.

Cheers

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I think you're right. I also noticed in the beginning, pre-captured Max, that he has no drop leg holster and he seems to be carrying his shotgun under his right arm. see pic below. you can also see it better for a split second as he stomps on the lizard.

The leg brace is is on his left leg in this view but yes the holster on his right is missing by the looks of it. But VERY hard to tell with the dark/rich imaging at the beginning.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Few things I've noticed since we got some clearer shots in the trailer. The rolled up clear tube Max carried on his shoulder seen here.

You can see the tube rolled down to his back at the beginning of the trailer here

This leads to the square yellow piece hanging on his backpack here

This leads me to believe that the yellow squared piece is a hydration bladder and that could be what the clear tube is for. Similar to one of these

I could be wrong since that's the only shot we have on his back and not very close up. Not sure what else it would be at this point though.

I also noticed he's wearing the same boots on both feet at the beginning of the trailer. The same style boots from Mad Max 2 that DGSimo posted. You can see them in the same picture above. He's also wearing both of the same boots in this photo.

In this promo photo he has a different boot on one leg

Not sure at what point in the film it happens but it appears he loses a boot and replaces with the one above. Another item I'm hoping we could ID soon, but it also gives costumers options if they want to wear both the same boots or one with the modern style.

One last thing I took notice was the shoulder plate he wears on the jacket is not the exact same one from previous films. Most likely a modern one. Not the best but here's a comparison.

I know the old ones they used were Rawlings football shoulder pads, so these might be from the same brand but on a modern model, just not sure which one.

UPDATE: Looks like the new shoulder plate does have the second strap after all. The angle of the picture taken above seems to be covering it.

I'm wondering now if the plate is indeed the same one from the older films but wrapped in leather and a bit of padding on the side to make it look rounder on the edges. The texture certainly does look like leather in certain pictures.

Anyway, that's all for now. Please feel free to chime in with any thoughts or info you might have.

At one point a War Boy gets his boot (slit get's it as he is falling off the back of Nux's vehicle and Max kicks slit in the face til he falls loose), so he temporarily steals Nux's boot while Nux is passed out after they lose control of the car and crash it and is being dragged behind Max (I believe Nux has Max's original boots from the beginning as he is wearing different boots after he is captured, but he only takes one as he only needs one and doesn't have time to take both while on the run). Nux get's either his boot back (which is actually Max's) after Max gets a new boot after killing the bullet farmers group that was chasing and shooting blindly at them and the wives while in the quagmire/getting to the now no longer "green place". Max gives it to Nux after he comes back from killing the bullet farmers and they are waiting for the war rig to cool off.

So, I'm a fairly new-ish lurker here, but am working on a last minute max costume, and thought I could contribute to this thread. I dragged some reference photos into autoCAD and did up some properly scaled cad drawings with dimensions for the "bloodbag" mask (for lack of a better term?). Anyways, thought you guys could use it. I'll probably make a new thread in the main forum as well for those that miss this post.

*EDIT* Fixed with (hopefully) more stable links

Nice! Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup

Hi there! New member here. Loving this thread. I was wondering if someone with a completely done vest could post pictures labeling what goes where? Like magazines and pouches and that kind of thing. Or refer me to a post that has said information. Thanks!

So my leathers didn't show up in time for Halloween, which rendered my M83 pretty useless. Ended up just going with the Captive Max look, and will do the full combat rig for future cons. Hope everyone had a great holiday!

also found some other members of the cast out and about last night!
