Marcus Vending Machine from Borderlands 3 - full scale

Finishing off the final details, have completed the cylinder in the bottom left corner.

Also since a few months ago THE Borderlands YT channel commented on one of my YT updates - I took a screenshot of that and placed it into a small lit up frame I made like one of those "quality control" type plaques.

Still waiting for the mp3 player with 4 sets of trigger inputs to arrive - already have the motion sensor, will also use one of the keys on the keypad and the card reader as the different types of inputs.

Over the past couple of days I finally managed to get the sounds to work:
  • The mp3 player has 4 folders triggered by 4 separate inputs
  • The 4 folders contain a bunch of mp3s which are played at random depending on the input
  • 2 inputs are 2 of the keypad buttons (the voice captures are related to selling items)
  • 1 input is the card reader with the voice being related to making a purchase
  • 1 input is the motion sensor with the voice being related when you buy ammo, which is the most common method of interacting with the machine in the game
I went through about 3 motion sensors, should've bought a proper one to start with, as the old saying goes - do it once, do it right. But glad I got there in the end.

Sorry but I had to laugh at the going from a stack of coin cells to a car battery. (FYI coin cells can only provide about 10mA of current in series). Still amazing work.

Haha yeah nah dude i totally get it, pretty much all I have to test with on hand. I have had these 3v batteries laying around and they proved to be perfect for random testing of LED strip polarity etc. So I always have them laying around but after a while figured I needed to go to a source that can actually provide decent current, but yeah in edit it turned out to be a bit of an extreme change lol.

Spent a few hours last and this weekend doing a few cover panels around the back. Pretty much ready for the back centre panel and the roof. Those will be the only panels made out of ply - the machine is bloody heavy already so if I can avoid adding another few kgs of sheet steel that noone will ever see then now is probably the time to do it.

The back panel had to be modified to clear the shelves. I noticed that they were protruding slightly past the frame a few months back but didnt want to modify the chain drive since it's been working so well - so thats why the back has flat sections aroudn the top and sides, but the center will be protruding by 40mm.

Ok I think I'm going to wrap it up at this point. I've had a good look at the finish, and I think getting this ready for primer and paint will be a bit of a nightmare. So I think a brare metal finish will suffice in this case. However I think I've learnt that when I make other replicas I'll make sure that every component that I finish is in a state that's ready for primer. Or perhaps I can prime each panel as I go - gives it time to shrink and cure anyway if I'm going for automotive-finish quality.

Thanks for sticking around with me - it was a great way to keep myself busy during covid, here is my small attempt at a "cinematic showcase".
