Millennium Falcon Computer Console 1:1

Thanks for the confidence guys. :)
I basically had to find a good median between the exterior and interior sets (there's a huge difference in size). I focused on keeping the interior as close as possible to the original set sizes. After all my research I came to the same size solution Robert Brown did (I researched it separately and came up with a size that was only a few feet from Robert's).
Even still nothing fits perfectly in the Falcon.
The BIG problem is the elevation inside. It just doesn't work without there being steps or ramps which we do not see in the films. The cockpit hallway HAS to be at a higher elevation than the interior ring corridor. You can tell that much from the exterior since the cockpit is higher than the ship's centerline.
The other big problem is the gun turrets. Even at the larger exterior size there is still not enough room for two gunner's stations and a connecting tube between them (if the sets are the same size as we see on screen).

I'm looking forward to watching the computer console take shape!

This may help a little. Not correct but may help with basic shape and light positions.

I also have my cocpit, console and turret graphics I made from the original set plans if you ever get to that area.

You may wish to work with the dimensions of the original 5 foot falcon rather than the 32inch falcon. The original 5 foot has greater dome curve (deeper internal) and the cockpit is closer to the full sized set plans. The full scale falcons and the 5 foot were referenced from each other. The 32inch falcon (Fine molds, MR falcon) is much shallower in the hull and the full sized set will not fit in the 32inch shaped cockpit.

Good luck with the project

One other observation when I was making the gun turret for my falcon was that they used forced perspective when building the full sized set. It still dnt fit correctly with two turrets but it does make a difference. The walls of the turrent are tapered, to give an extra depth on film.

Good topic ill be watching close as i need to build a few sets for my fan film and want them to movie standard

Ozzy, you are a wonderful human being. Thanks so much for the input and resources. I will make good use of them. And yes, I'd love to have access to anything else you may have created.

THANKS!

If you PM me I will organise all the resources I have that relate to the falcon that I have archived and created. I will send you a disk. Anyone willing to undertake such a task, deserves everyones help.

Uhmmm>> I may have not made it clear in my first post, but the first console graphic is not mine, I dont know were it came from otherwise I would give credit.

The cockpit and cockpit console, gun turret etc are mine.

One last thing, I have a excell sheet that I made up to gauge the AMT dimensions against the 5 foot falcon. This may help when increasted to the full sized set. The full sized set in ANH did have a cockpit that was the right size, to fit in the 5 foot model. Scaled down!!! so it can work. The three level floor in the cockpit is one example of how it can work.(From lucas arts plans)

Thanks for asking but I have not finished my Falcon. Its a rebuild of an AMT kit. 90% rebuild. I dont have the room or the time to finish it at the moement unfortunately. But thanks for the interest.

Happy to help in any way

Regards

Ozzy

Hi Chris,
I saw this Full Scale Falcon Story and it reminded me of your thread. Probably old news for ya, but just in case.

Holy cow - how did you find this article. That was awesome!!

I've always thought the unsung heros of the OT were those involved in making the sets and you can't find anything about them. Man - that was cool.

Can you imagine what some of that stuff would be worth had they saved it.

I can't wait for the day for a fan to make a lifesize Falcon I can visit!

That is awesome.
I still have plans to build a full-size falcon cockpit. I guess i need to start pulling together resources. Seems like a serious long-term project so I better not wait to long...

Thanks!
I got the notice from starwars.com thru their mailing list. It's a great story.
I loved the photos of the scrapped pieces in the shipyard. Sad, but intriguing.

Mine will last forever! Or at least longer than that one did.

You are going to be a legend! Go for it!!

I would be interested in helping build the thing!

Cool!

Once we get the workshop complete next year we plan on having regular group building sessions. "Falcon building weekends" or something similar.

Still in the planning and engineering stages now. Got an architect and a structural engineer on board.
