MR Falcon Picture

Awesome pic! That is a definite keeper!

Regarding the paint jobs, you have to keep in mind that we had a factory on the other side of the planet, where 99% of the people working on the models had NO CLUE what an "Aluminum Falcon" was and never even saw Star Wars.

They have to work from specs and reference images. AND they have to try to make 1500 models look exactly alike with hand-painting techniques. That simply isn't possible.

So you can't say..."Just paint it to look like the FALCON in Star Wars...you KNOW what that looks like? EVERYBODY knows THAT, Right??!!!"

You will almost never get a SS model from a Chinese factory that looks like a model-pro (who knows the subject intimately) sat down and spent 40 hours painting it.

That is a trade-off that we had to make. I believe they were good-enough for what they were. I never really heard any complaints from anyone at conventions. 99% of the public said they were amazed at how good they were.

What still amazes me is that there are 1100 parts in each model. Think about having to assemble 1100 parts...1500 times. That's 1.65 million parts that have to be molded, trimmed, glued and painted. Yikes.

But as a SS collector, I agree. I was not happy with the paintjob, because I am a picky nerd-boy. I posted a thread somewhere in the SS forum a long time ago. I completely repainted mine and added the ten missing parts. I also added all of the missing hash-marks and all of the ILM names that cover the model.

It took me 60 hours, but I wanted to prove that it CAN be done. So get off your butts and repaint those Falcons!!! And post pics!

I would show you good photos...

But I STINK at photography. :unsure

Hi, here is my falcon with a litlebit of modifiycation

This takes the biscuit. Seeing the piece photographed under pseudo ILM conditions reveals just how awesomely authoritative it truly is. I mean, it always looked fantastic but this is just overwhelming.

One of the few regrets I have about not having a proper job as opposed to being an artist is that I couldn't afford the MR Falcon. Lack of house, kids, car, general material luxury... could care less, but to forego the object in this photo - that hurt.

Not a bad idea putting "T.S" in your photo as a marker either though you'll find some that will photoshop it out and post it all over the net as their own. :unsure Worse yet, they'll just say since it was posted publicly then it's up for grabs for anyone to use.

You did a fantastic job on your repaint Steve, I have to say I have held off repainting mine for a while now, the main reason being its such a great factory pint job. I have to say I'm still impressed with how it looks & wont tackle it till I know I can do it justice. :love

Definitely will never want to repaint mine as I can't see where enough improvement could be made to be worth the effort. Got lucky on this one........twice, which is not normally how it goes for me, so I'm happy to have it back for sure. That pic is definitely awesome Mandalore.:thumbsup
