My Eleventh Doctor costume Series 5 and 6

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume

Amazing looking costume! Great job...Missing one thing tho... A Fez! "Fezzes are cool"

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume

It's the details that make the layer boots so cool, especially the "witchy" angle of the sole and the weathering on the boot. This is one of the things that makes the costume work, because the boots help offset the geography teacher outfit.

This is my feeling on the whole outfit actually. Each piece (in series 5 anyways and speaking more of the blue variant) has it's own unique texture or weave that makes it really unique.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume

I'm soon hoping to get some shots of me in the completed costume. Now that I have everything put together I'm excited to see how it all looks on.
You are right though - the boots DO help offset the 'professor' look.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume

I've been somewhat lazy in not updating with full pics of me - mostly because I never can get a photo of me when I wear it out!
The good news is, I just received my Series 6 replica tweed from Magnoli and I am attending Katsucon this weekend with a few other RPFers and should have some great pics from that event.
I will also make a point to get pics of me wearing my Series 5 tweed with my replica shirts from Steve Ricks.

Sweet!! Glad it arrived in time. Can't wait to see it this weekend!

I was shocked when DHL called me this morning letting me know I needed to sign for it today!
I am just blown away at how lightning fast Magnoli had this shipped to me!
I'm rockin' my series 6 outfit right now and will try and get some pics today to share.

You gotta show us some pics of the tweed.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume

Ok.
I looked really stoned in a few of the pics of me wearing it so I won't post those tight shots (I just got back from the Chinese Buffet and it took a lot out of me).
Here are some pics. I am also forwarding some of these to Indy for use on his site.
I will have more of me wearing it when I hit up Katsucon this weekend.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

I must admit he has done a good job on the jacket, but and I hate to say this, there are quite a few inaccuracies as well.

However it doesn't detract from a nice looking jacket.

Such as?

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

The Series 6 jacket has three buttons on the cuff not four. Those elbow patches are also too big. Who will notice that though? Its the right cloth and thats what gives the authentic look and the overall costume is good.

Re: My Eleventh Doctor costume *Magnoli Series 6 Tweed pics!!*

The cut of the lower front of the jacket is wrong as it is not as rounded as it should be, there are only 3 cuff buttons not 4, the vertical stripes above the lower jacket pockets do not join before they reach the pocket like they should, the elbow patches are leather on the real jacket not suede or faux suede as yours are, the buttons are wrong, the pattern near the rear vent is not in line and next to the vent as it should be and the stripes on the epilettes (collar) are not positioned correctly in relation to the neck.

That is to name a few. Still a good looking jaclet though.

I had done a comparison below. Screen used correct in red and your jacket's inaccuracies in blue.

I do not like making a habit of this but I know how expensive the tweed is and that you prob paid a pretty penny to have Indy Magnoli make it so it should be as screen accurate as possible which, except for the material, it isn't.

The positioning of the stripes is not uniform even on the original jackets so unless an episode specific pattern was chosen I guess a replica just comes out whichever way the cloth is cut? Even so if this is a pricey item I would expect the buttons and patches to have been given more attention because they are way off. Still a good costume I would say and not many people would ever know about such small variation.

I have checked many screen images, especially regarding the stripe positioning of the jacket and except for an inch move here of there they are all pretty much in the same location. I agree that the stripe positioning is not "as important" but for a pricey jacket you want as close to screen accurate as possible. Unfortunately this is not whereas Steve Ricks' version ticks hell of a lot more boxes towards accuracy. Shetland tweed is not something you can make mistakes on and there should have been alot more research into the jacket befoe IM had a go at making it.

Ouch.
Ok, give me a minute to pick up my guts here and I can reply...

Sorry, not meaning to be harsh but I can guess you prob paid alot of money for this and if I am to be really honest, he has made a complete hash of it in terms of screen accuracy.

It is a nice looking jacket and creates the effect of the doctor very well, especially when paired with the rest of the costume. The tweed really gives of the overall effect so if that is all you were looking for then you made a decent choice but if you wanted accuracy then you should have gone elsewhere.

Clearly you are suggesting Steve Ricks over Magnoli. I have purchased from Steve before and very happy with his products. Magnoli offered me a very good deal on this jacket so I took it.
If the issues with the jacket can be remedied by Indy, I'm sure he will oblige as he agreed to make it as accurate as possible.

As for bringing up other makers, I don't think it is fair to bash this item and say another person makes it better.

My apologies,

Let me just set the record straight. Indy Magnoli's company makes fine items and has alot of satisfied customers. I have never personally bought from him so would not know. I am not knocking him or his company's ability to produce quality items. My opinions are relating to the tweed jacket only and I am not bashing it as I said it is a nice looking jacket and it gives off the look of the doctor. I do hope that he will rectify the inaccuracies for you and I know that when he does you will love the jacket.

Also I am not suggesting Steve over Indy either but simply pointing out a fact that now, after seeing both jackets and comparing them to the screen used jacket I am just saying where I would place my money. However please remember that Steve does make everything himself by hand whereas Indy, as I am led to believe has his items made for him elsewhere and then has the items sent directly to his customers so he will not always have direct oversite to what is being made.

So to summarise, the jacket itself is a nice looking jacket and Magnoli has done a good job of creating a jacket that gives off the persona and look of the doctor and was probably good for the price you paid. It is just far from screen accurate. In other words the phrase "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" is pertinent here.

Thank you for your input on this.
I have sent Magnoli an email with a link to this thread and I am confident he will be willing to make things right. And you are right though, having the right fabric is only half the battle so I am hoping things can be ammended.
