My first PEP picked the HD war machine....need some suggestions

Hi all I stumbled across the RPF and PEP a month or so ago when I was looking for inspiration for my next Halloween costume. Needless to say I was soon sucked into the PEP forums and figuring out the software and files. A couple of weeks ago I took the plunge and purchased some cardstock and printer ink.

I printed out the 15 pages of War Machine pages and started cutting. Everything came from the collaboration thread over on the 405th forum and the helm file is listed as unfolded by D.

I am pretty happy with the way it has turned out however I do have a couple of things I need help/suggestions with.

First:

I have the entire helmet assembled but I dont think i did the "goggle" section that sits behind the faceplate correctly. I got kind of lost in the assembly process and it doesn't seem to line up behind the face shield very well. As this first one is most likely only going to be a display piece/gift for my oldest son should I just forget about that piece?

Second:

I am not really sure what to do with the "mohawk" assembly that goes on top of the helmet. Should I resin it separate from the helm then try to attach later? How does it actually attach...just plop it on and glue?

Third:

Not sure if you can tell in the pictures but the chin portion came out a bit tweaked and off center. Is there a way I can square this up or do I just need to re-pep? This one gave me a hard time I feel I kinda hacked it a bit during assembly but i am pretty sure now that I know how it goes together the second time will be easier.

Overall I am very happy with the results of the pep for a first try and hope to move to the resin and fiberglass soon. Just picked up all of the goodies at Home Depot yesterday :).

Thanks for any help and suggestions and for all of the inspiration I see on here that keeps me thinking maybe I can churn out something worth posting.

Thanks,

Len

Great start!
I haven't built off of this pepakura file, but I might be able to help a little. For your chin (and any other parts of the helmet that aren't squared the way you want them) you can make temporary bulkheads out of paper and put them on the inside. I use extruded rectangle and triangle shapes for strength. Use these to hold the helmet's shape while you resin the outside, then pull the extra pieces when it's dried and finish resining the inside. I would resin the mohawk piece in place as well; if you resin it off the helmet it may twist and then have to be 'flexed' back to fit.
I'm not sure about your goggle section. You could pepakura just that area again and try to replace it if you don't think it's going to do what you want it to. It looks fine from the exterior. Good luck :thumbsup
