My Multipass Build

I just started on this kit myself. Having a heck of a time just peeling the paper off. :lol

Is there paper on that tiny little strip that goes next to the LED? I can't tell just by looking at it.

There is indeed no paper o that little strip. The paper is only on the pieces that were laser cut.

In my tutorial, I recommend soaking the pieces in warm water for a few minutes. it makes the paper much easier to peel off.

Build up looks really fantastic. Awesome work.

GREAT job on the electronics as I did not want to build mine until I could get some guidelines to build a working MP! I am a little SOL on the soldering but hoping a friend can help me out there. Can't wait to get mine started!

I got all the paper off in like 5 minutes just digging near the edges and it all came off in solid sheets!

Same here, but I'm a compulsive nail biter, so it was challenging.

Is there any way to do this without the bits from the little light keychain? Like something you'd find at Radioshack or Fry's?

A little update on these. I just built up 3 more and changed a few things. First when you make the battery terminal you will want to cut it so it goes all the way to the LED .Also if you mount the LED so that the writing on it is to the right side it is easier and cleaner to wire it up.
Instead of the paper insulator between the switch plate and the battery i used the backing from a nicotine patch. It is super thin plastic and i think it will hold up better than the paper. I knew i saved them for something when i quit smoking cigs.
Another change is instead of using the clearcoat to hold the button to the clear backing i used super glue. It is super clear and no bubbles when it dries. Just drop a couple drops of super glue onto the plastic, drop the button on it and squeeze the excess from behind. My first multipass button started to look cloudy so i riped it apart and upgraded it to the new parts. I still ended up using CR2032's rather than the thinner 2016. I want the extra batt capacity and it's easier to find the 2032s at most stores also.
I finally got the cahones to attach the graphics. I did a test with the trimmings and some styrene stock and the super glue did not leak through. I just ran a sorta thin bead 3/8" from the edges and one across the center. You will want to start at the edges where there is no glue to line it up properly. You only get one chance. You can not remove them intact afterwards. The graphics are the most nail bitting part.

Thats it. Here is my complete collection of multipasses and one for an RPFer going to Dragoncon as LeeLoo.

Lostdecoy your Multipass will go out tommorow or friday, hope you like.

ZK, those all look really fantastic. Awesome work, and as always, SUPER huge thanks for documenting your process and sharing your thoughts. Great stuff.

And a bit of a product plug, IF during the course of a build up you destroy the graphics accidentally, I'm SURE we can figure something out about getting you a replacement set ;)

No problem Matt, thanks for the great kits. I'm stoked i have a complete set now. Your attention to detail in making the kits really made the build go smoothly. Feel free to use any part of this thread including pics for your tutorials. I ended up coming back here to build these as i had forgotten some of what i had done and in which order. In a couple months i may offer to build some of these for RPF members. I have too much on my plate right now though.

Thanks again

Bumping the thread to give props to ZK on the great work with these functioning MP!

I had it with my Leeloo at Dragoncon this year and got tons of compliments with the details of Matt's kit and the fact that it actually worked. Just sharing these pics from that weekend :)

lostdecoy, nice pics.
realistic costume!

I always look for the real picture of Leeloo.

LD, sorry I did not get a chance to see you at DC! Would have been great to get a picture with you and your multipass! Maybe next year! The costume looks great, by the way. Excellent work.

I was never able to find that picture, so I ended up using a screen capture that I modified heavily. The pic on my pass doesn't really look like the one used in the onscreen version, but oh well. Heck, the pic on the screen used one barely even loooks like milla!

If anyone has any info or leads on that original photo, please drop me a line.

I personally don't think it is Milla either. It looks like a totally different person.

Yeah, it looks like this person:

No? So it's just me?

If I can get HD caps of the original and a LOT of HD screen captures of Mila in semi-similar poses, I could probably photoshop together a working substitute. (It would take some time though)

That's pretty much what my approach was. I had an HD copy of the film before the blu-ray came out, which provided some really good stills of Milla. Still, it took a lot of work to find one that was CLOSE, and then I had to clean it up a lot and tweak it.

Still, if you have a chance to one-up me, that would rock. Would love to see it get even closer.

get even closer.

I've been flat on my back sick the last two days, so it's not like I'm doing anything else. Let me see what I can whip up for you.

...it's screenshotting time! If anyone has any HD grabs already, please send them my way.
